A Pokemon GO player is showing off the hard-working defenders it’s placed in Pokemon gyms, with one clocking in at over 1000 days, and another hot on its heels. The Pokemon GO reveals have surprised and impressed the community, as many trainers struggle to defend gyms for more than a few hours or days at a time.
After defeating the controlling team at a Pokemon gym, players are given an opportunity to leave one of their Pokemon behind to help defend it. Ultimately, most Pokemon will get knocked out sooner or later due to trainers from other teams going through the area and challenging the gym. However, this player’s Pokemon have been away defending a gym for nearly three years.

Pokemon GO player sarvesh_s shared a screenshot showing off their Pokemon that had just clocked over 1000 days defending a Pokemon gym. Sarvesh_s had been looking forward to this particular accomplishment, and was ready to take the screenshot just as their Metagross passed 1000 days and 1 second defending a gym. Most players would be stunned and impressed by that alone, but right behind the Metagross is a Snorlax that had been defending a gym for 999 days and just 8 minutes shy of 24 hours at the time of posting. Some of their other Pokemon are impressive as well, with Marowak and Vileplume both holding gym control for 674 days each.
Pokemon GO Players Stunned by Gym Feat
Other fans in the comments have congratulated sarvesh_s on their Pokemon’s efforts, but were also flummoxed as to how a Pokemon could possibly defend for so long. Sarvesh_s explained that they had been traveling when they placed these Pokemon in their gyms, and that the gyms were in rural areas of India that didn’t have the best internet connectivity. As a result, it would seem that very few – if any – players have come through that area and attempted challenging the Pokemon GO gym’s controlling team.
Some players joked that the Pokemon wouldn’t even remember their trainer once they finally return, if they ever do. There’s no way to manually recall a Pokemon home from a gym, a frequent complaint among Pokemon GO players. Sarvesh_s isn’t the first Pokemon GO trainer to have their Pokemon defend a gym for months or years, with players having no resources to get them home other than to keep waiting or asking someone else to seek out the Pokemon gym and defeat their Pokemon. With these Pokemon being in a rural area that doesn’t have good cell coverage, even asking the community for help might be for naught.
