Fishing feels halfway-mandatory in just about any JRPG these days, but at least in Atelier Yumia‘s case, it makes perfect sense that our alchemist heroine would wish to engage in the millions-of-years-old human pastime. We’re in an epic nonstop search for ingredients to use in Synthesis, and why shouldn’t that include fish?

There are several different Quest Types in Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key. Here’s what you need to know about each of them!
You’ll not be able to go fishing from the start of the game, and the system’s unlock condition is surprisingly subtle. You might accidentally go many hours without a means to catch that seafood. We’d prefer for that not to happen to you, so we reckon this guide will come to your aid.
How To Unlock Fishing In Atelier Yumia
In order to unlock fishing, you must learn how to craft lures. Your fishing rod itself won’t require anything, as it’ll simply come pre-assembled, but a recipe is necessary for the lures.
Continue down your Pioneering Efforts path, unlocking new things at ten-percent intervals. If you’ve not yet unlocked Pioneering Efforts, that’ll happen soon enough! The Pioneering Efforts system is made available a couple of hours into Atelier Yumia’s main quest.
Soon enough, you will unlock the lures recipe. Craft these via Simple Synthesis and be sure to add them to your Exploration Bag. Do that, and you’re good to go!
How Fishing Works In Atelier Yumia
There’s really one thing you need to do in order to fish in this game: Find fishing spots. Naturally, these will be found at pools of water, though you won’t necessarily be able to identify them based on that single merit.
Instead, keep a lookout for question marks on your map (and mini-map). This is a good rule of thumb in general, as question marks, which denote points of interest, can lead to a great many things. But this includes undiscovered fishing spots.
When you’ve found one, press the button which pops up as a prompt and fishing commences. Remarkably, this is a very simplistic spin on the mini-game.
- Your rod will immediately appear in Yumia’s hand. She’ll send out the line.
- When a white bubble (of sorts) springs up at the top of your screen, press the confirm button, and you’ll acquire your catch.
That’s all there is to it. Seriously straightforward, no? If you fail, Yumia will put away her rod, so just press the button prompt again, and you’re back at it. There are a limited number of hauls at each location, though they likely respawn in due time.
