As you explore the Climate Control map, you’ll find plenty of uses for a Heater, whether that’s to thaw out frozen frogs, fix the Climate Control machine to restore the area to normal, or to bring home with you and work on cultivating all kinds of new mushrooms that require warmer conditions to begin sporing.

Thaw Frozen Frogs And Machinery

Dendro tells you it’s snowy in the Climate Control region, but so much of what’s been left behind up there has completely frozen over by the time you arrive, including Annura, the Caretaker of the region who resides at the Caretaker’s Rest building on the eastern side of the map. After you’ve used a high Umbrage frog to thaw her out, she’ll offer a wealth of items in her trading shop. One of them is key to navigating the chilly Climate Control region: the Heater, which Annura will trade for three Croakfoots and five Logs. Croakfoots grow in the reeds in Climate Control.

With Heaters in hand, you’ll be able to thaw any ice in the Climate Control region by simply placing your Heater down on the ground nearby. This creates a five-by-five grid with the Heater in the center, and once you’re happy with the location, you can place a high Umbrage frog into the machine to turn up the heat. You can tinker with this by thawing different sections of the region to save frogs, but the Heater has a big story purpose as well.

While you need the Cooler instead to make your way out to the three frozen sensors that are preventing the machinery in the Climate Control building from functioning as intended to manage the chill in the region, it takes a Heater or two to thaw the frozen weather sensors around your map. You can find the three sensors you need to thaw by looking for three large X marks on the map. When you arrive, place the Heater with the right frog to thaw out the machinery.

Location of the frozen sensors in Mudborne.

One sensor is just east of the Forecasting building, another is south of the Caretaker’s Rest, and the third is south of Food Storage and the Storage pool, beside one of the Frogham Markers that suggest new frog species you can make using the mushrooms native to that region and its dream world counterpart.

Make Mushrooms That Require More Heat

The Encyclopedia offers plenty of helpful hints on where to find all the mushrooms in Mudborne, information that only gets expanded upon as you continue to harvest and use the spores. A few of them, you’ll notice, mention increasing an area’s heat beyond natural levels, and this is accomplished by placing a Heater near Cultivators that have been filled with compost to encourage mushroom growth in the hotter weather nearby. The heat-specific mushrooms are:

  • Frosty Jacks, which require a Heater in the water to increase the area’s balmy temps.
  • Velvet Inverters, growing in the grass in the dream worlds.
  • Rude Awakening, which grow similarly to Velvet Inverters but require moisture changes as well.
  • Torrential Prunes, asking you to grow them in cold weather that you change the heat levels of with your high Umbrage frogs.

You’ll need a Frosty Jack if you’re following the Compendium to make progress through the story.
