Every castle and fort in Assassin’s Creed Shadows presents a unique layout and challenge, with Nagahama Castle standing out as one of the most unusual locations in the game. While certain smaller areas like Takatsuki Castle offer more traditional layouts, Nagahama Castle is broken up into smaller courtyards dotted over the water.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows – Yakami Fort Exploration Guide

Yakami Fort is short and sweet.

This castle’s outer ring forms an ‘L’ shape from the west to the east, while the southeastern section of the castle is a larger land mass where most of the action will take place. Get ready to hunt some Samurai Daisho using Naoe’s stealth skills across one of the most unusually crafted locations in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Where Is Nagahama Castle?

You’ll find Nagahama Castle in the northeastern area of Omi, along the coast of Lake Biwa.

The closest fast travel point, besides the one in the castle, is the Nagahama Kakurega, to the northwest of the castle.

Where To Find & Assassinate The First Samurai Daisho

Approach the castle from the north side and ignore the main entrance, instead going toward a small boat in the water between you and a broken wall.

Jump from the roof of the boat onto the wall to enter the castle, then jump on top of the highest nearby roof to survey the scene.

Follow the path east along the northern perimeter of the castle’s first outer ring. Stop when there’s a bridge to cross from the northeast section further south into the mainland area – this is your first stop.

Take out the guards on your side, then cross the bridge and look further south to find the first Samurai Daisho across the gap.

When you cross the bridge, be sure to jump up along the perimeter and make your way to the tall building separating you from the first Daisho.

This courtyard is relatively busy, with three nearby guards that can see you kill the Daisho. The best way to ensure you’re safe is to:

  1. Kill the guard on the far right (southwest) side, patrolling the upper balcony
  2. Then, kill the guard on the ground below the first
  3. Third, kill the guard patrolling the southernmost path near the water, leaving the first Samurai Daisho exposed
  4. Close in for a kill on the first Samurai Daisho

With that done, you can progress to the next area in search of the second Daisho.

Where To Find & Assassinate The Second Samurai Daisho

From the small central courtyard, head further east where you’ll immediately run into the second Samurai Daisho.

Approach this large courtyard via the left perimeter along the northern wall adjacent to the water – there are two guards along this higher path you’ll need to take care of.

Wait for one of the guards to walk around the corner to you, then dispose of them.

Afterward, take out the second guard and jump to the top of the guard tower in the corner of the courtyard.

From the top of the guard tower, you’ll have a view of the last two remaining targets: a guard and the Samurai Daisho.

When the Daisho leaves the area to patrol outside, jump down and take out the guard, then wait for the Daisho to return to finish him off.

Where To Find & Assassinate The Third Samurai Daisho

Progress further southwest into the castle to explore the slightly elevated area lying further in.

You’ll see the third Samurai Daisho in the large tower to the northwest corner of the small land mass that makes up the southern island of the castle.

Approach the tower and fight your way to the Daisho by killing the guards around the entrance to the same floor as the Daisho.

Here, you can pick off one enemy at a time by luring them with Shinobi Bells, or making small noises with your weapons to get their attention. Eventually, you can double assassinate the Daisho if they’re sticking with another enemy.

Where To Find & Assassinate The Fourth Samurai Daisho

This leaves you with only the fourth and final Samurai Daisho to find. Head to the water in the center of the castle to swim over to the northwestern side of the castle and toward the small courtyard area jutting out into the center of the water.

In this small courtyard, you’ll find the fourth Samurai Daisho.

Mark the Daisho from the small rocky area as you exit the water, then circle around using the western path.

On your way to the Daisho, take out each guard one at a time, then you’ll see the Samurai Daisho to the east in the courtyard.

Approach the Daisho quietly as he’s meditating, staying close to his backside, then take him out before he realizes what’s going on.

From here you can head back to the Tenshu back across the water to claim your Legendary Chest.

What Rewards Do You Get From Nagahama Castle?

Naoe approaches the Nagahama Castle Chest in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

With the fourth and final Daisho dead, you can claim your well-deserved Legendary Chest, along with a fast travel point and more goodies spread throughout the castle.

Side Loot

Here is all the major loot you can find spread throughout Nagahama Castle.

  • Additional Loot:
    • In the northeastern section of the castle, there’s a house with a single guard inside, along with a chest.
    • In the southeastern section toward the center of the castle where you killed the first Daisho, there’s a small chest on a table.
    • On the eastern central side of the mainland, there’s a small guard tower with an archer inside. Defeat him and claim the small chest he guards.
    • On the western path along the inner ring of the castle, you’ll find a small chest after defeating the second of three guards en route to the fourth Samurai Daisho.
    • In the central courtyard along the castle’s inner ring where you killed the fourth Samurai Daisho, there is a small chest beside where the musician was playing.
    • In the basement of the Tenshu, you’ll find an open door with a small bale of resources to grab, two resource piles to smuggle, and a chest.

Legendary Chest

Naoe claims the Nagahama Castle Rewards including the Mamushi Snake Robes in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

The Legendary Chest is inside the Tenshu at the northwestern corner of the castle’s mainland area to the south.

Jump into the building via an open window, then fight your way through the small group of enemies guarding the chest. Inside you’ll receive:

  • 3,000 exp
  • An Engraving
  • Mamushi Snake Robes Legendary Light Armor for Naoe

From here, there’s only one reward left to claim at the top of the Nagahama Tenshu.

Synchronization Viewpoint

The Nagahama Castle Viewpoint in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

After you finish the third Samurai Daisho, climb the Tenshu in the northwestern corner of the southern part of the castle to claim the synchronization viewpoint and a fast-travel location.

With this last area seen, you’ve cleared out Nagahama Castle.
