Once your Kaiserpunk city becomes an industrial powerhouse, you’ll probably want to turn your production toward conquering the world – or at least part of it. Since the planet is covered in oceans and seas, and your starting position could even be an island, there’s a good chance that you’re going to need a naval invasion or two.

From classics like SimCity to the latest and greatest city building games, these are the best of the best.
The tutorial’s third chapter covers the basics of troop transports, but leaves out some important details that can trip you up once you’re in a real campaign. Before you go centering all your plans on storming the beaches, here’s what you need to know.
How To Add Landing Ships And Carriers To Naval Fleets
Each navy that you deploy to the World Map can be upgraded with either Landing Ships to carry land armies or Carriers to transport air squadrons, but not both. That means that if you want to cross an ocean with air support for your infantry and tanks, you’re going to need at least two fleets, possibly more.
Like other unit upgrades, Landing Ships and Carriers can be added to a fleet by selecting the navy that you want to upgrade, then clicking the diamond with a plus sign in the upper-right corner of its info panel. From there, you can choose to add your selected upgrade, provided you have the necessary materials.
Upgrade Costs
These upgrades for navies aren’t cheap; you’ll need lots of materials to supply even a single fleet, as follows:
- Landing Ships require 100 Machine Guns and 100 Bombs, and take 15 days to build.
- Carriers cost 200 Machine Guns and 200 Bombs, and take 25 days to build.
Bombs are available pretty early on and can be made in Munitions Factories, but Machine Guns are much harder to come by. They can’t be made in Factories until Military Development rank 13, which can take a very long time to reach. Since they’re a Tier 4 resource, you’ll also have a tough time trading for them unless you have huge amounts of other military goods to offer to other nations in return, as well as a secure trade route to ensure the shipment isn’t lost in transit.
If you start heavily restricted by water, in an area like Britain, Japan, or Australia, use the Market to meet other nations as quickly as possible and trade aggressively for Military Development points to get to Machine Guns as soon as possible; your troops will be stuck in your island home until you do.

Loading And Unloading Troops From Transport Ships
Once a navy is outfitted with the appropriate transport upgrade, loading an army or squadron is as easy as moving them onto the navy’s location from an adjacent land region. Air squadrons have a range of two regions from their home airfield, giving them a bit more range for this purpose.
After an army or squadron is loaded, you can select their name on the bottom of the screen to highlight them from the fleet’s current position. This can be used to upgrade or reinforce them, or to move them back onto land when the time comes.
It’s usually a good idea to have the fleet attack any defending land armies first to soften them up before your own troops disembark.
