If you’ve been keeping up with the numerous castles, forts, and fortresses (they’re different) in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, then you’re familiar with the formula at this point. Each area is protected by a set number of Samurai Daisho, who you must defeat to fully clear a given area. Once the Samurai are defeated, you earn the right to open the area’s Legendary Chest.

Ubisoft Reportedly Has A Plan To Protect Devs From Harassment When Assassin’s Creed Shadows Launches

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched this week, and Ubisoft has reportedly already put a plan in place to protect devs from harassment.

These Legendary Chests contain unique weapons and armor to collect, including options for both Yasuke and Naoe. Regardless of which character you prefer to play, these locations will offer worthwhile rewards that will help you take on the hardest bosses. We’ll be showing you how to stealthily clear every area with Naoe, including assassinating the four Samurai.

Where Is Uda Matsuyama Castle?

You’ll find Uda Matsuyama Castle in the northeastern section of Yamato in the mountains. The nearest fast travel point, besides the one in the castle, is the Uda Town Kakurega, just to the southwest of the castle.

There’s also a fast-travel point inside the castle once you’ve completed it, but that won’t be available to you at first.

This castle is also visited during the quest ‘The Lost Envoys’ while hunting The Wise of the Shinbakufu, so you can wait until then to seek it out.

During this quest, you’re tipped off that the best direction to approach the castle from is the south; do so as you plan your route.

How To Find & Assassinate The First Daisho

As the envoy tells you during the quest, the walls to the south have been weakened, so use that to your advantage and enter the castle via the large wooden beams near the south wall, and climb up onto the house in that courtyard.

As soon as you enter the castle’s southwestern area after scaling the walls, you’ll find the first Samurai Daisho, patrolling between some buildings with three stationary guards around him. Here’s how to take him out:

  1. Kill the one guard along the edge toward the south, then watch the Daisho’s path.
  2. Take out the closest guard,
  3. Then, immediately kill the guard in the middle as the Daisho walks away from you on a northern path.
  4. With the other guards out of the way, you’ll be able to take down the first Samurai Daisho silently.

Alternatively, you can always wait for the Daisho to move to the secluded end of the building away from the guards, then assassinate him from the roof.

This takes a little bit more time but is incredibly safe.

How To Find & Assassinate The Second Daisho

The Uda Matsuyama Castle Second Daisho in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

From the first Samurai Daisho, the second one is a straight shot north along the northernmost set of buildings adjacent to some water.

This Daisho is in the middle of a courtyard, where a guard is overlooking the area, facing outward. There’s another guard slightly north up the path, but he’s distracted.

The only person who might see you is a worker who patrols the area – wait for him to pass before doing anything.

With the coast clear, jump and assassinate the second Samurai Daisho, then quietly scurry back to the roof you just came from – it will be easier to reach the third and fourth Daisho from here.

How To Find & Assassinate The Third Daisho

From the second Samurai Daisho, turn your attention southward to see the third and fourth Samurai Daisho near the same courtyard at the center of the castle with a large tower. Make your way over to this area and survey the scene.

The third Samurai Daisho is completely alone in a small courtyard training area.

He’s the simplest to kill of the bunch – just be careful of the worker who passes through the area periodically. Scurry over to the roof above the Daisho then jump down and assassinate him, leaving one more.

The third Daisho has a lot of HP so prepare for a brief fight if you can’t finish him off in one shot.

How To Find & Assassinate The Fourth Daisho

This fourth Daisho is slightly further southeast from the large tower and presents an interesting situation.

The courtyard is relatively well guarded, but the guards are all spread out except for the fourth Samurai Daisho and a single guard directly next to him.

Make your way to the corner of the building directly above the Samurai Daisho and his accomplice.

Position yourself and use Eagle Vision to see your targets through the cover of the tree, which can sometimes obscure your vision.

Equip a tanto and unlock the skill to use double assassinations and clean them both up at once, then scale the building you jumped from and return to the Legendary Chest in the large southeast tower for your reward.

What Rewards Do You Get From Uda Matsuyama Castle?

Once you’ve finished the painstaking task of eliminating all four Samurai Daisho, you can claim all the remaining loot in the area, including the Legendary Chest that contains a powerful reward.

Side Loot

There’s also a plethora of side loot to collect in the Uda Matsuyama Castle, so here are several locations with the most interesting rewards.

  • Additional Loot:
    • In the same courtyard where you killed the third Daisho in the center of the castle, you’ll find a small chest that has a chance for an epic item.
    • In the main tower with the Legendary Chest, you’ll find two piles of resources you can smuggle.
    • In a guard house in the northwestern section of the castle, you’ll find a rare chest tucked in a room with a guard who you’ll need to take out to claim the chest.
    • In the far southeast corner of the castle, you’ll find a small guard tower with a chest containing crafting supplies and a ration container.

Legendary Chest

With all four Samurai Daisho defeated, you’ll unlock access to the Legendary Chest in the large tower in the southeastern section of the castle. Approach the red chest on the main floor and you’ll receive

  • 3,000 Exp
  • An Engraving
  • Legendary Onna-musha Kosode Legendary Light Armor for Naoe

Despite plenty of adversaries to overcome in this area, the Oda Matsuyama Castle yielded several valuable rewards that made it worth the extra effort.

Even if you didn’t collect all the side loot, you’re walking out of this area with your pockets full and some new gear to try on.

Synchronization Viewpoint

With the four Daisho defeated, make your way to the southeastern portion of the castle to climb the tower adjacent to where you killed the third Daisho, where you found the Legendary chest.

Scale the large tower in the southeast section of Uda Matsuyama Castle to claim the viewpoint synchronization and a new fast-travel location.
