Out Of The Box, Design And Build Quality

The Overwatch Reaper is a pair of glasses made for gamers (or regular folk) who spend most of their time in front of the screen whether gaming or working. I have not used blue light glasses before (instead opting for the night light option on my PC) so this was a fairly unique experience for me.

You’ll first notice the glasses after opening the box. I took them out of the box and after handling them for a little while, I was satisfied; they felt quite sturdy without being heavy. There’s also the Reaper insignia on both sides of the frame.

In terms of general design, it’s evident that GUNNAR has focused more on functionality rather than style, seeing how they’re specifically designed to block blue light. However, the glasses still look stylish and modern.

The GUNNAR box also comes with a custom microfiber pouch that holds your very own Reaper microfiber cleaning cloth! The microfiber pouch also features Reaper and Overwatch logos. You also get a Custom Microfiber Cleaning Cloth which is used to clean the lenses of any dust or debris that might impact your visual field.

Overall, the accessories provided with these glasses are quite decent but contain nothing out of the ordinary or unique. The design and build quality are also quite satisfactory.

GUNNAR has 4 patented lens technologies under them. They are as follows:

  • Clear Pro (20% blue light reduction) – Best for graphic designers who need true color accuracy.
  • Clear (35% blue light reduction) – A good choice for office work and casual screen use.
  • Amber (65% blue light reduction) – The most popular option for gamers, enhancing contrast and reducing eye fatigue.
  • Amber Max (98% blue light reduction) – Best for people highly sensitive to light or struggling with sleep disruption due to screen exposure.

The Overwatch Reaper comes with only the Amber lens though and that’s the one we have with us for testing. At the time of purchase, GUNNAR did not have the other lenses available. They do however sell these glasses with prescription lenses and as sunglasses (so they’re not strictly for reducing blue light).

The lenses themselves work like a charm. I used these glasses while working and playing games – haven’t once had any issues while using them.

Even after a few hours of use, I did not get as fatigued as usual, especially after grinding for 4 hours straight, trying to climb the Marvel Rivals ranks. Furthermore, the anti-reflective coating on the lenses helped reduce glare from overhead lighting and screens, making it easier to focus on the action.

Comfort and Fit

These glasses are incredibly light and weigh just around 20 grams. The multi-barrel hinges GUNNAR provides offer great flexibility making it fit really well no matter your head shape, nose size, or ear shape.

In general, bulkier glasses tend to cause discomfort on the nose due to their weight. Thankfully you will not experience that at all with GUNNAR Overwatch Reaper glasses. GUNNAR has even thought of adjusting their design to make sure they don’t interfere with people wearing headsets. They designed the frames with thin temples, minimizing pressure points. These features make it perfect for long gaming sessions.

GUNNAR Overwatch Reaper Review: Final Verdict

The final verdict of this GUNNAR Overwatch Reaper review is that the glasses do what they are supposed to and look stylish to boot. The amber lens works really well in front of computer screens and smartphones, which means even if you are looking at a screen prior to sleeping, the blue light won’t have an effect.

With my current sleep routine, I usually doom scroll for 20-30 minutes before going to sleep so these Overwatch Reaper glasses have been very useful.

Combine that with the weight, aesthetics, and versatility, and it’s clear why these gaming specks are a viable investment for people who spend a lot of time straining their eyes via computer or phone screen. The price is a tad high ($69 on the official website) but they’re well worth it, especially if you find them on sale. Oh, and you also get a 12-month warranty!
