Paradise Druid

One of the better two-mana creatures to give you mana in Magic, Paradise Druid is your basic mana creature. It taps for any color you might need though it does have a bit more power to it than most mana creatures.

Giving Paradise Druid hexproof means that your opponents can’t immediately take the Druid out before you get a chance to use it. Generally, in Commander, you have three opponents who have all sorts of targeted removal just waiting to be thrown out to any player who gets the tiniest bit of an advantage in the game.

Invisible Stalker

Now You See Me…

The Magic the Gathering card Invisible Stalker by Bud Cook.

There are only two abilities on Invisible Stalker, one letting you know that it is safe from any oncoming removal spells, and another letting your opponent know that the Stalker is going to chip away at them for the rest of the game.

Since Invisible Stalker has hexproof instead of the more restrictive shroud, you can still slap any number of auras and equipment to it, turning that tiny base one point of damage into a much bigger threat. While it does take a bit of extra work to get Invisible Stalker to a point where it can be a threat, once it is, there’s not much that can stop it.

Dawnglade Regent

Another pricey green creature, Dawnglade Regent is a monarch-based creature that can keep your entire board safe so long as you hold the crown. When the Regent enters the battlefield, you get to become the monarch, and a fun mechanic that adds a new level of strategy to a game of commander.

Becoming the monarch lets you draw an extra card at the start of your end but it can be taken away if an opponent’s creature deals combat damage to you.

Now that you wear the crown, all your permanents have hexproof, keeping practically everything you own safe from all removal expect boardwipes.

Carnage Tyrant

A Brutal King

Dinosaurs are one of the more popular creature types you can play in formats like Brawl and Commander, and the Carnage Tyrant is one of the more difficult ones to deal with for your opponents.

Carnage Tyrant does a lot of work in managing the board. It is coming down no matter what thanks to it being unable to be countered, giving you a solid 7/6 creature for your opponents to contend with. Then, it has both trample and hexproof, ensuring that at least some damage is going to slip through your opponent’s defenses, and making it awfully difficult to remove outside of combat.

A singularly powerful creature and one of only a few green and white Angels in Magic, Sigarda, Host of Herons is a great deterrent against one of the few ways to get around hexproof in Magic, and that’s if your opponent forces you to sacrifice that creature.

With Sigarda out, that no longer becomes an option, reducing your opponents to board wipes of some kind, which aren’t always great in many scenarios. Since spells and abilities of your opponents can’t force you to sacrifice anything, Sigarda can sit neatly above the battlefield, protected by her own hexproof.

Geist Of Saint Traft

Speaking of Angels from Innistrad, the Geist of Saint Traft is a very strong little guy who comes complete with an Angel token buddy to help punish your opponents. This three-mana hexproof creature sits at just a 2/2 for stats, but when it attacks, you get to make a 4/4 flying Angel token that enters tapped and attacking.

The problem is that since the Geist is so small stat-wise, it is pretty easy to take him out, even with the hexproof. All you really need to do is give him some evasion, like flying or making him unblockable, and you’ll never run the risk of losing Saint Traft to combat again.

Avabruck Caretaker

A Werewolf Counter Machine

Easily one of the most terrifying kindred creatures to come down on the battlefield, the Avabruck Caretaker is a six-mana Human Werewolf that enters as a 4/4 with hexproof. With the Caretaker around, you get to put two +1/+1 counters on another creature you control at the start of combat on your turn.

Once she flips, this Werewolf becomes a real threat to everyone playing. Not only does she give herself hexproof, but also gives everything else you control hexproof as well. Even better, instead of just putting two +1/+1 counters on one of your creatures, she puts two of those counters on all of your creatures.

Narset, Enlightened Master

Can’t Stop Free Spells

Narset is one of the single most powerful commanders out of the Command Zone, and it takes quite literally, no setup to have her combo off. Despite being rather expensive at six-mana, Narset’s stats only put her at a 3/2, though she has both hexproof and first strike, so she’s fairly difficult to deal with.

Once you get an attack off, this powerhouse shows her worth. With each attack, you get to exile the top four cards of your deck and letting you cast them for free this turn so long as they are noncreature spells. Since this is an attack trigger, you don’t need to have Narset live long or even through combat, you just need that hexproof to keep her safe until your next combat set.
