A Forbidden Love Story
- First met during the second chapter.
Although Princess Atsuko can not be asked to join in on the various missions of Rise of the Ronin, this royal lady with her regal feline companion is still a great option for anyone who is looking for someone to form a Veiled Vow with.
Princess Atsuko is also a great option for any players who enjoy a forbidden romance that rivals the story of Romeo and Juliet. Even if her late husband has died, this woman with plenty of responsibilities is taken aback by the player’s proposal when she acknowledges the difficulty their romance will face, especially due to many occasions seeing them both on rival sides of the current conflict.

Soji Okita
Being Soji’s First Love Is Adorable
- First met late into chapter two.
Although Soji Okita doesn’t have as much of a role in the main story of Rise of the Ronin, he is an adorable option for any player who has sided with the Shogunate in Rise of the Ronin. If players aren’t taking this side during the conflict, Soji is unfortunately unavailable.
While this young Samurai may not be as involved in the main story as others, he still makes an appearance in multiple side quests where the player gets to know him better, with them even nursing him back to health. Eventually, this leads to an innocent romance where Soji admits the player is one of his first, and he just wishes to make them happy.

As players can find these cats everywhere, players can cause Usogumo to love them faster than the others and even confess their love to her. Shinsaku Takasugi
Together Through Thick And Thin
- Met during the first chapter.
Like Soji, Shinsaku is another character that the player can nurse back to health, due to him also suffering from the same disease that Soji was. However, if players wish to romance Shinsaku Takasugi, they will instead need to side with the Anti-Shogunate faction to remain on his good side.
Besides meeting Shinsaku during the first chapter of the game, players will see him more often than many other characters due to how closely involved he is with the faction. This aside, bonding moments are quite nice, with Shinsaku being surprised the player would love him.
4
Sana Chiba
Helping Her Find New Love
Sana Chiba is one of the few women in Rise of the Ronin who has combat prowess that allows them to join the player on various missions. Besides her skill with the Polearm and martial arts, she is completely infatuated with Ryoma Sakamoto, who mistakenly agreed to marry her many years ago.
Unfortunately, Ryoma has moved on, but Sana has not, causing her to push herself to become the best for him. By bonding with her in Rise of the Ronin, players can hope to take the attention away from Ryoma and instead have Sana Chiba for themselves, helping her to finally move on from their good friend.
3
Kogoro Katsura
Romancing The Leader Of The Anti-Shogunate
- First met during the first chapter.
Players who continue to side with the Anti-Shogunate faction may find themselves falling for its leader, Kogoro Katsura. While he may be a bit of a drunkard, especially when the player first meets him, he decides to attack them. When he isn’t drinking, Kogoro is arguably one of the best Veiled Vow options.

Rise of the Ronin: Biggest Mistakes To Avoid Early Game
It’s easy to make mistakes early on Rise of the Ronin if players simply don’t know any better. Here are the biggest mistakes to avoid.
Those who are looking for a partner that they will likely see multiple times throughout the story of Rise of the Ronin are sure to enjoy Kogoro’s company, and when they finally admit their feelings in the final chapter of the game, Kogoro admits he has been thinking the same.
2
Taka Murayama
One Of The Most Touching Love Stories
- First met during the first chapter.
Out of all the available women romances in Rise of the Ronin, one of the best has to be Taka Murayama. This beautiful lady that the player meets during the first chapter of the game is incredibly helpful to the player, as well as being one of the most tragic romances in the game.
The only downfall to Taka Murayama’s romance – without giving too many spoilers – is how short it is. Players will be sad to see how quickly this romance is over before it has even truly begun, even if romancing Taka, like Usogumo, is forbidden due to her being a Geisha, even if her time as one will soon be over as she grows older.
1
Ryoma Sakamoto
He Has Always Been There To Support The Player
- First met during the first chapter.
Unsurprisingly, the best romance in Rise of the Ronin involves the player’s partner in crime, Ryoma Sakamoto. This story is as much his as it is for the players, as they work together on multiple occasions across the story, with the player following Ryoma no matter what and Ryoma trusting the player’s choices.
By the end of the game, the player has likely formed a strong enough bond with this Samurai to finally admit their feelings to him, which he gladly reciprocates. With the player spending so much time with him, it just feels right that he would be the character for players to romance, as this bond is one of the strongest of all.
