Ever wonder what allowed the Super Saiyan 4 transformation? Here’s how it happened.

While Majin Buu is one of the most iconic villains in the Dragon Ball universe, his newer, lesser-known successors may raise some questions about how exactly they came into being, their skills and powers, and everything that happens to them during the Daima saga.

Major spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima below.

Who Is Majin Kuu?

The battle against Majin Buu is one of the most well-known in the Dragon Ball universe, but set a few months after his defeat, the Daima saga reveals that there were other players on the field as well, even if they were not directly contributing to the fight. As Vegeta unleashes his Final Atonement Explosion against Buu in Dragon Ball Z, Dr. Arinsu, the sister of Shin and Degesu, collects some of the Majin’s regenerative residue from the battlefield.

Fast-forward a few months to Daima, and it turns out that Arinsu handed Buu’s essence over to Marba, a witch who was actually the one behind Buu’s creation, hoping that she would create another creature like him.

Since Majin Buu was an extremely strong being but came with a massive trade-off of instability regarding his power and control, Marba and Arinsu try to take a slightly different approach with the ingredients for the new creature. Aside from using Buu’s essence found on the battlefield on Earth, they also bury a Saibaman seed inside the mixture, which could quite possibly be to ensure that the creature actually remains loyal, similar to how the Saibamen are to the Saiyans.

To ensure even further certainty on the loyalty front, Arinsu also adds some of her saliva to Marba’s pot, and as a result, Majin Kuu makes his Dragon Ball Daima debut in Episode 9 called Thieves.

Majin Kuu does not look exactly like Majin Buu because of the Saibaman seed that was mixed with Buu’s essence to create him, which gets rid of the typical pink color and makes him appear green instead, similar to the Saibamen. Kuu’s body also does not have the shape of the innocent Majin Buu and looks more like Kid Buu instead, because Marba was extra careful in ensuring that she does not put too much of Buu’s essence into the mixture this time for stability purposes.

Unfortunately, when pitted against the First World Tamagami on the orders of Arinsu, it is revealed that Majin Kuu did not really inherit Buu’s sheer strength, as he forfeits shortly after setting foot on the battlefield.

Dragon Ball contains some of the greatest fights in anime history.

However, his character truly starts to shine after the birth of his brother, Majin Duu, whom Kuu does not see as a threat just because he has been fired by Arinsu. Instead, Kuu chooses to help Duu out as an elder brother whenever he can, quickly bringing him chocolate when he needs some motivation to fight and supporting him every step of the way.

But although Majin Kuu does not really come with too much power, he has a secret weapon hidden up his sleeve that can come in handy in crucial situations: his intelligence, which he uses to acquire the first Dragon Ball from the First World Tamagami when Duu fails to answer the final question.

And while it initially seems like Majin Kuu does not have many contributions during the final battle against Gomah, when Arinsu also offers to help Goku’s group out, it is because of him that the gang is able to figure out how to take down the antagonist and the Third Eye. However, even after relaying the information to Piccolo, a seasoned warrior at this point, the Z Fighter fails to properly execute the plan, prompting Kuu to take matters into his own hands and remove the Third Eye from Gomah’s head.

Since Majin Kuu is technically the one who ultimately defeats Gomah, according to the Daima rules, he becomes the new Supreme Demon King, after which he appoints the majority of the main cast to his government to lead the Demon World to peace and prosperity.

Who Is Majin Duu?

Making his franchise debut in Dragon Ball Daima Episode 11, called Legend, Majin Duu comes onto the scene when Kuu fails to defeat the First World Tamagami, forcing Arinsu to head back to Marba and create another Majin variant. Although the procedure of Duu’s creation is mostly the same as Kuu’s, the only difference is that Arinsu ditches all caution that she used to have before and puts in a lot more of Buu’s essence to ensure that the new creation can actually fight.

Aside from that, Arinsu also buries another Saibaman seed into the mixture, but this time, it gets inserted much deeper than it did during the creation of Kuu, all of which combine to give Duu a physique very similar to Buu’s, but the rest of his appearance follows in his elder brother’s footsteps.

What does the scouter say about this Saiyan’s power level? We have all the details about Dragon Ball Z’s strongest warrior.

Unlike Kuu, Majin Duu is extremely gifted when it comes to combat, but all he needs to get properly motivated is a piece of chocolate, after which he becomes an unstoppable force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. As a result, Duu manages to defeat the First World Tamagami without breaking a sweat. Unfortunately, he is not nearly as smart as Majin Kuu, requiring his elder brother’s help to figure out the answer to the Tamagami’s final question.

Duu’s excellent demonstration of strength continues when Arinsu nominates him to fight Goku and acquire the remaining Dragon Balls, as the Majin is somehow able to match the universe’s greatest fighter’s attacks and swiftly counter them with his own.

But when that battle comes to a sudden halt thanks to Gomah’s massive new form, Arinsu prompts the Majin to help Goku, because of which the Saiyan finally gets the window to turn into his SSJ3 form for a more even match against the big bad. However, that is still not the standout moment of Duu’s Dragon Ball Daima journey, as after eating some more chocolate, he decides to aid Goku even further by mimicking the Super Saiyan 3 form and transforming for a short while as well, creating an unexpectedly epic duo in the process.

After Gomah is finally defeated, Majin Duu is appointed as a minister in Kuu’s new Demon World government as a reward for his contributions to the overthrowing of the tyrannical ruler.

Majin Kuu and Majin Duu could not be more different than one another when it comes to their respective skill sets. But with the former’s intelligence and the latter’s power, the Demon World should remain safe for a while, unless Toei Animation decides to work on a second season for Dragon Ball Daima.
