As you might expect, most of your time in Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be spent hunting down targets to kill. You’ll track foes with either Noae or Yasuke as you cut your way through feudal Japan, unlocking various questlines that task you with finding and killing a group of enemies.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Canon Mode Was Added Because Fans Wanted A “Definitive” Narrative
Don’t worry, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has a set place in the series’ canon.
One of these side questlines is The Twisted Tree, which gives you the ever-evolving challenge of cutting down each member of the Takahashi Clan. While this contract seems simple enough at first, you’ll unlock more targets as you make progress, extending your initial list from three to seven.
How To Start The Twisted Tree Assassinations
To gain access to the Twisted Tree organization assassinations, you must first progress the main story with Noae. You unlock The Twisted Tree assassinations after you’ve defeated three of The Shinbakufu: Ido Yoshihiro, Wada Koretake, and Wakasa.
With those three main quest assassinations finished you can begin hunting down the Takahashi Clan.
How To Find The Takahashi Clan
Much like the main assassination targets, you’ll need to find the Twisted Tree’s Takahashi Clan using your scouts or on-the-ground observation.
Using your Scouts is much more efficient, and we’ve marked the location of each Takahashi Clan member below so you can make the most of your Scouts.
Where To Find Takahashi Shiro
- Location: In Kyoto at the Nijo Palace, directly to the right of the bridge drawing on your map.
Your first target is Takahashi Shiro, located in Central Kyoto, Yamashiro in Nijo Palace. You’ll find him in the Southwestern section of Nijo Palace, standing next to some yellow banners, opposite the large building that has the synchronization point.
Each defeated enemy grants two Mastery points.
By defeating Shiro, you’ll earn:
- 2,000 exp
- A level 12 katana
After this section is complete, you’ll earn access to three other targets:
- Takahashi Goro in northern Kyoto
- Takahashi Taro in western Kyoto
- Takahashi Ichi-Hime in western Kyoto
Where To Find Takahashi Goro
- Location: At the Shokokuji Temple by the Shokokuji Pagoda fast travel point in northern Kyoto.
We’ll begin with Takahashi Goro, so fast travel to the Shokokuji Pagoda area in the Shokokuji Temple, where you’ll encounter your target at the foot of the tower.
Observe the area where you’ll locate Goro on the ground – make your way down the tower and sneak up on your prey through the broken building.
Be wary of the one guard patrolling the area around the house that Goro is posted in front of.
Assassinate Takahashi Goro from the doorway behind him, and you’ll immediately claim your reward:
- An engraving
- A level 12 Katana (Raijin’s Refusal)
- 335 mon
Killing two of your targets unlocks a fifth and sixth Clan member to pursue: Takahashi Inoshichi and Takahashi Saburo.
Where To Find Takahashi Saburo & Taro
- Location: The western section of Kyoto, directly to the left of the word on the map.
Next set your sights on the other two Takahashi in western Kyoto – Taro and a sixth Takahashi: Saburo.
Luckily, Saburo and Taro are having a conversation on Kyoto’s western side, directly southwest of the ‘k’ from Kyoto on your map.
Jump into battle against both Saburo and Taro, targeting one of them (preferably Saburo) with your abilities and attacks to take him down quickly. Next, turn your attention to Taro, who you should be able to beat with a few dodges and counterattacks.
Defeating Taro will net you:
- An engraving
- A level 12 katana (Burden of Legacy)
- Insect Cage quest item
Defeating Saburo will yield
- An engraving
- A level 14 Katana (Saburo’s Deference)
- The Letter From Saburo’s Body quest item
Where To Find Takahashi Ichi-Hime
- Location: The Umenomiya Taisha Shrine in western Kyoto.
After the double kill, head west to locate Ichi-Hime at the Umenomiya Taisha Shrine to the west of Kano Painting School and Nijo Palace in Kyoto.
Get to a rooftop as usual, and you’ll spot Ichi-Hime along the western edge of the shrine – they give you the option of sparing or attacking them, but ultimately deal with Ichi-Hime as you see fit.
You can decide to keep things uniform and kill this member of the Takahashi family too. The game is called Assassin’s Creed, after all.
However, you can spare Ichi-Hime and still get the same rewards:
- An engraving
- A level 14 bow (Daydreamer’s Grip)
- 305 mon
Where To Find Takahashi Inoshichi
- Location: West of the Honnoji Temple in Kyoto, southeast of the Umenomiya Taisha Shrine.
Next, head for your final target, Inoshichi, in southern Kyoto slightly west of the Honnoji Temple area.
You’ll find Inoshichi slightly toward the middle of the search circle, directly below and to the left of the word ‘Honnoji’ on the map.
The building he is in has two doors, so be careful sneaking in so this assassination goes smoothly.
Finally, with Inoshichi killed, the true final contract becomes available: Takahashi Jiro, who is located west of the Honnoji Temple.
Where To Find Takahashi Jiro
- Location: West of the Honnoji Temple in Kyoto, again. On the Takahashi Estate.
Jiro will wait at his father’s estate to avenge his death, essentially where you just escaped from after the most recent assassination.
Look toward the direct center of the area, and you’ll see Jiro among a group of soldiers on the estate. The final Takahashi will be wearing gold and brown armor, ready for a fight.
You can do a large chunk of damage with a surprise assassination and finish Jiro off with a few hits.
What Rewards Do You Get From The Twisted Tree Quest?
Finally, The Twisted Tree will be completed, and you’ll be rewarded with the following items for killing Jiro:
- An engraving
- A level 13 katana
- 305 mon
- 2,000 exp
Furthermore, you’ll also earn an additional reward set for completing The Twisted Tree questline:
- 5,000 exp
- Two more engravings
With seven members of the Takahashi Clan now defeated, you can rest easy knowing you’ve finished The Twisted Tree.
