Where To Find Every Yokai In Assassin's Creed Shadows

While doing the main story in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you’ll be taken to every major province, and you can find a ton of side quests during your travels. Some of these quests simply ask you to defeat a certain number of enemies in the province, while others have more specific requirements.

Sometimes it’s better to explore a vast, open world with a few close friends, rather than go at it alone.

The Yokai is one of these quests, and the quest-giver asks you to find various Yokai rumors so that you know that they don’t exist in this world. These will take you all over the map, and you have to pay attention to the clues if you want to beat the quest.

Where To Get The Yokai Quest

Even though you’re here, there’s a chance that you might not have The Yokai quest in your objective tab yet mainly because the location for this quest is quite secluded and doesn’t fall on the main story’s path. To get it, you need to head over to the eastern region in Yamashiro called Hills of Meeting.

While exploring this area, you can find the Nyoiji Daiji Temple to the southeast of where “Meeting” is written on the map in 3x zoom. Upon getting to this temple, you’ll find Mamushi and trigger a small dialogue, which will start this quest and give you a special circle for all the Yokai on the objective.

If you don’t have Guided Exploration mode on, you’ll only get some clues for the Yokai’s location without a quest marker.

The main difficulty of this quest is finding these Yokai, and we’ve got you covered in that regard.

Where To Find Bakemono

The Bakemono will be the first and the easiest Yokai you’ll find since they’re in Izumi Settsu, the beginner province. However, the clues you get to find them will already tell you how difficult this quest will be. You can only find The Bakemono in the Suika Lands area during the Summer or Fall.

This area can be found on the northeastern edge of Settsu. To get here, you can cross the river to the east of Yamazaki and run a bit inland. The area will appear as a “?” on your map and top scale when you get close. Of course, you also have to make sure you’re in the required season if you want to find them.

You can check your current season on the top right side of the map screen. Each season stays for two resets.

The season changes only when the circle’s boundary is filled with white color. The summer season has a sun icon while the fall one has leaves.

As you get to the location, you’ll see two normal people with their heads covered with a fruit and their face colored fighting. When you talk to them, you’ll get a choice to say that you like one of the fruits. You’ll then have to battle the person with the other fruit, finishing this part of the quest.

Where To Find Kappa

The next Yokai will be found in the Yamashiro region itself, and it also has some specific requirements. Firstly, you’ll have to find a haunted village in the province, which can be found near the northwestern edge. Head straight up from the Genbu Panorama viewpoint and you’ll see a small group of buildings in the mountains.

Once you find the village, you can first defeat all the bandits in it and then wait until it’s nighttime. As soon as it gets dark, you can use the road leading down from the village until you reach a stream of water. Use observer mode consistently and you’ll locate The Kappa near the water.

Once spotted, the two kids will run back up the mountain and arrive at the bandit-filled village.

Since you’ve already defeated all the bandits, this part of the quest will end here for you after a small dialogue.

Where To Find Yuki Onna

The third province you’ll visit in the main story of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Omi, and this is also where the highest-level Yokai called Yuki Onna can be found. When you look at this quest on the objective board, you’ll see that the enemy you’ll be facing is level 38, which is nothing to take lightly if you’re low-level.

There are a few conditions to find Yuki Onna, with the first one being the winter season. It’s pretty obvious to tell when it’s winter, but if you’ve started the game recently, it’ll take you a while to get there. Once you’re in winter and have equipped yourself with good gear, you can start looking for her.

You can still defeat Yuki Onna even if you’re low-level, but there will be no room for error.

She will defeat you in one shot, which means that you’ll not only have to attack her a lot more, but also take no hit.

To find Yuki Onna in Suzuha Foothills, take the road to the left near the giant lake going north. Keep going on this road until you reach Nomura Village. From this village, you can stay along the small river going east and you’ll eventually reach Kawachi Kaza-ana Cave with Yuki Onna in the water near it.

She won’t attack you on sight, and after a small dialogue, she’ll start walking to her cave. It’s recommended to follow her into the cave and save just before you enter so that you can fight inside, where it’s much easier to see when her attacks are coming. This part of the quest ends upon defeating Yuki-Onna.

Assassin's Creed Shadows Yasuke fighting Yuki Onna.

If you’re planning to fight Yuki Onna when you’re significantly lower level than her, one way to do it is by following these steps when you have Yasuke and ally Yaya’s first upgrade from the Dojo:

  • Start by using Yasuke’s Staggering Blast skill on the bow, which will deal a decent portion of damage to her.
  • As soon as your arrow hits, trigger the Clear Mind bow skill and shoot her with eight arrows. After that, press Yaya’s ability button while shooting two more arrows.
  • Once Yaya knocks her down, get close to perform a Ground Attack, and then use your Katana skills and normal attacks to defeat her.

Where To Find Daitengu

Assassin's Creed Shadows Daitengu Yokai location.

The next Yokai can be found in the Harima region, and the clue mentions that he’s in an Onsen. To get to this Onsen, enter Harima from Settsu using the road at the very bottom of the land. Keep following this road until you go across a small river going up to the north.

Follow this river and you’ll eventually reach an open area with the Daitengu on some water bodies. This is quite a simple quest as you can simply get to the enemy and defeat it to finish.

Where To Find Oshiroi Baba

Assassin's Creed Shadows Oshiroi Baba Yokai location.

Going from one region to another, you’ll find Oshiroi Baba in the Yamato province of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Once you enter this province from the northwest, keep going south to first find the Koriyama village and then on the road going south from it to find the Ando area.

Once you get to the Ando part, head towards the east while slowly going a bit down on the map and you’ll find Oshiroi Baba in a random little area at night. She’s quite good at listening and will spot you early. However, once you win a battle against her, you’ll find out that she doesn’t see very well, and will spare her while asking her to leave.

Where To Find Taka Nyudo

The final Yokai called Taka Nyudo can be found in the Tamba province to the north of Harima, and he’s said to be located in the Kabasaka Village. Enter Tamba from the Mount Sen viewpoint in Harima and reach the area just below where “The Silver Lands” is written on the map at 3x zoom.

From here, follow the road going to the northwest and you’ll eventually find the Kabasaka Kakeruga. Once this pops up, keep following the road and you’ll arrive at the village with the blue marker for the Yokai. Simply go on the wall behind the man and assassinate him to end this part.

Ending The Yokai Quest

Assassin's Creed Shadows Chitose at the end of Yokai quest.

After checking out all the rumored Yokai locations and finding none, you’ll be asked to return to the Nyoiji Daiji Temple to claim your rewards. However, when you get there and enter the temple, you’ll find Chitose, one of the people you saved from the Taka Nyudo part is a Yokai, and has killed Mamushi.

She’ll then attack you, and you’ll engage in a boss battle against the Ao Andon. She won’t have any armor so you can defeat her quite easily as long as your gear is upgraded.
