Naoe and Yasuke might be the main characters of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but they’re not alone in their quest to take down the Onryo. In fact, their allies are some of the most important parts of the game.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Leaking Isn’t Good For Anybody
Ubisoft’s open world stealth adventure is out in the wild, and now the damage control begins.
As you make your way through the story, you’ll find and recruit people who can perform specific tasks. One of the first allies you’ll unlock are the Scouts, who play an essential role in finding missions and targets. Here’s what you need to know.
What Do Scouts Do
Scouts are one of the most important allies in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, as they’re used to locate missions, targets, and more on the map. When playing in exploration mode, most mission start points and objectives won’t be explicitly spelt out for you, as you’ll only get told hints of where you need to go.
This takes a lot of time to get used to, but the process can be made a lot easier by using Scouts. Once you’ve left the Hideout for the first time and unlocked Scouts, you can look at the in-game map and then press X on Xbox or Square on PS5 and then hold A on PS5 and X on Xbox to send them out into a specific area. You can also increase the number of Scouts you send out at once to make the search field a lot bigger.
Using Scouts will mark the investigation zone of what you’re looking for on the map, meaning you don’t have to spend ages hunting around and waiting to stumble onto your objectives. You’ll still need to send Scouts to the right area by following the clues given in the mission’s details, but it’s a lot easier than travelling to each area and spending time inspecting the whole environment to find who or what you need.
Sending Scouts out is something you need to get used to, as you’ll basically have to do it at the start of every main and side mission.
That’s not all Scouts are used for, though. You can also give Scouts a new purpose by commanding them to collect bundles of resources you find while exploring the world. This takes a few Scouts and is generally less helpful than their map-scouring, but it is helpful when finding what you need to build and upgrade the Hideout’s buildings.
How To Get More Scouts
With Scouts playing such an important role in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you might be wondering what the downside to using them is. It’s simple – you’ve only got a limited amount of them. When you first start out, you’ll only have three Scouts, and they refill at the start of every in-game Season. Scouts can also be refilled by saving random people in the world and asking for “Scout Intel”.
You can choose to refill an individual Scout slot by purchasing it in any unlocked kakurega. It costs 200 Mon per Scout, though, so it’s a bit costly and not what you want to be spending your money on.
Unlocking Scouts is a fairly easy process, thankfully. To get more, you simply need to build and upgrade the Study in the Hideout or recruit more allies in the world through side missions. The easiest way, though, is with the Study, which is well worth taking the time to build and upgrade as soon as you get the chance. Here’s every level of the Study and what it’ll cost.
