With the launch of Nvidia’s new RTX 5000 laptop GPUs on the horizon, now is an amazing time to pick up an RTX 4000 gaming laptop for a bargain price. This HP gaming laptop deal is a case in point, costing just $899.99 and including an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 gaming GPU, as well as a decent AMD Ryzen 7 CPU, saving you a massive amount of money.
Best Buy says you save $600 on this machine, based on its comparative value calculations, and while I wouldn’t go that far for this specific HP Victus laptop, it’s definitely an incredible spec for the money. At the top of the list has to be that Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 mobile gaming GPU, a chip used in several of the best gaming laptop designs on our buying guide. With 4,608 CUDA cores, it offers a big step up in power over the RTX 4060 laptop GPU below it.
This GPU comes with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM, rather than the 12GB found on the desktop RTX 4070, but that’s enough to run most modern games at decent settings on this HP laptop’s 16-inch, 1080p IPS screen. In fact, this GPU is an ideal pairing for the 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, giving you more power to increase your graphical settings than the RTX 4060, while still running your games at the screen’s native resolution.
The GPU also supports DLSS 3 with frame gen, meaning it can use AI to insert extra frames between the ones rendered by the GPU, making your frame rates even faster, as long as your starting point isn’t too low. That screen also has a 144Hz refresh rate, making for smooth action in fast-paced games, and the RTX 4070 will be able to keep up with that refresh rate in plenty of games as well, unlike some lower-powered GPUs.
Meanwhile, the AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS CPU is also a fantastic inclusion in a laptop that costs just $899.99. It features eight cores based on AMD’s Zen 4 architecture, as used in the company’s Ryzen 7000 desktop CPUs, and it can boost to up to 5.1GHz. That’s not just a decent CPU for gaming, but you’ll be able to run multi-threaded content creation tasks, such as video encoding, well on it too.
There’s 16GB of DDR5 RAM included in this laptop as well, and while we’d usually recommend 32GB on a new machine now, that’s still plenty of memory for gaming, especially when some budget gaming laptops still only come with 8GB of RAM. What’s more, the memory is installed on SODIMMs, rather than being soldered to the motherboard, so you can always upgrade to 32GB of the best gaming RAM at a later date.
If there’s one disappointment, it’s that you only get a 512GB SSD with this machine, which doesn’t give you much room to install several of the latest games at the same time, with download sizes becoming bigger all the time. You can’t have everything for $899.99, though, and like the memory, you can upgrade your drive to the best SSD for gaming you can afford at a later date – the laptop supports PCIe 4.0 drives as well, so you can get a reasonably fast one.
