Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu Plot details have allegedly leaked, and most fans are not happy to hear it may repeat a Clone Wars storyline.
Collider revealed that The Mandalorian & Grogu appears to have a production budget of $166.4 million and received a tax credit to the sum of $21.75 million from the state of California. The California Film Commission revealed the figures, and while it’s a much bigger budget than many movies get, that’s not the case when it comes to Star Wars. It is significantly lower than any other Star Wars movie that has been released since Disney purchased LucasFilm, and that’s something that could impact the overall quality and what they will be able to do with the movie.
For comparison, the last movie in the franchise, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, had a budget of $275 million. The previous two Star Wars movies had a minimum of $245 million, but Star Wars: The Last Jedi raised all the way to $317 million. Obviously, with those being Star Wars movies, the budget is always expected to be higher than for a spinoff movie, but even the last two spinoff films had more money than The Mandalorian & Grogu. Solo: A Star Wars Story had $275 million, while Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had a budget of $200 million.
This means that The Mandalorian & Grogu will be getting put together on a significantly smaller budget, but that’s something that could end up benefiting the movie. Less focus on special effects and more on the action and high-quality acting could make this movie stand out. The film will see Pedro Pascal return as the titular bounty hunter, while Jeremy Allen White and Sigourney Weaver have been added to the cast. On top of that, it’s expected that the likes of Giancarlo Esposito, Katee Sackhoff, and Rosario Dawson will be reprising their roles from the television series.
The Mandalorian has always been a gripping series that commands audiences’ attention with each episode. It became popular due to the tension, the slow build, and the excellent story, and as long as all those things remain at the heart of this film, there’s no reason why it can’t be a success. The two lead characters have become some of the most popular within the Star Wars universe, and now the pressure is on to make The Mandalorian & Grogu a movie worthy of the show.
