Mid-vintage Pokemon TCG sets have long been regarded as awkward middle children of the TCG space – not quite modern and not quite vintage yet. Despite their unusual position, sets like Secret Wonders are garnering attention from savvy collectors who are looking to diversify their Pokemon portfolio by moving away from expensive modern cards.
Secret Wonders keeps things simple on the design front, as iconic Pokemon like Charizard and Lugia are allowed to shine in all their glory in Secret Wonders. This era of sets boasts unique Pokemon levels beside their name, adding a distinct flavor of this generation, and distinguishing the best Secret Wonders chase cards from the rest.
Cards are ordered according to their Market Prices on TCGplayer. Any cards without a Market Price are not included.
6
Honchkrow LV. X (Ultra Rare) – $33.41
A Gorgeous Honchkrow
Honchkrow steps into the spotlight as one of the boldest cards in Secret Wonders, standing out thanks to its marvelous navy blue and red color palette, setting the tone for this Dark-type Pokemon’s appearance as a dark horse in the set.
While many modern cards boast a price chart that shows their values exploding in a near-straight line upward, the market for cards from this era is a bit less volatile, leaving Honchkrow with a solid chart to analyze, even if it’s not staggering. This card continues its rise that began in the $27 range and continues to the current market price.
5
Blastoise (Holo Rare) – $43.19
Flowing Like Water
Blastoise is one of the original starter Pokemon and, despite not commanding the same level of popularity as its peer Charizard, makes a comfortable landing as one of the most expensive Secret Wonders chase cards in the set, falling just shy of another Kantonian Pokemon.
Despite losing out on a higher placement, Blastoise continues to rise, as it began 2024 around the $32 mark, and has since surged out of this previous range into the 40s, cementing its place among the best chase cards in Secret Wonders.
4
Mew (Holo Rare) – $44.13
Simple And Sweet
While the Secret Wonders Mew Holo Rare can’t crack the list of valuable Mew cards it has in its collection, this beautiful chase card still earns a strong ranking among the best Secret Wonders chase cards. Mew’s simple art takes it to an impressive spot just above Blastoise, beating out another Kantonian favorite.

Manaphy boasts valuable cards from sets across generations.
While Mew’s lead over Blastoise is slim, it has quite a ways to go before it can reach the heights of the next most valuable chase card in this set. Unfortunately, unlike some of the other best cards, this Mew has trended downward, struggling to maintain its market price after reaching heights in the $50 range.
3
Gardevoir LV. X (Ultra Rare) – $53.82
Breaking Barriers
Gardevoir is a Pokemon that frequently finds its way onto many lists, though it’s rare to see one of this Pokemon’s most expensive cards topping a list other than its own. While Gardevoir doesn’t usually boast over-the-top artwork that can warrant being called the best card in a set, its LV. X from Secret Wonders stands out as one of its best cards.
Unlike Mew, Gardevoir has been knocking on the door of the upper echelon, inching up from the low 50s into the upper end of that range, sitting at its current market price. This card still needs more momentum to ultimately break into the 60s, but there’s a great chance this Gardevoir could continue to soar in value due to the almost 3D effect of the art.
2
Lugia (Holo Rare) – $60.56
Flying Up
Lugia is often seen as one of the most beloved Pokemon to chase in the TCG, as evidenced by its placement as the top chase card in both Aquapolis and Neo Genesis. However, this Lugia can’t hold a candle to the best vintage Lugia cards, but it can claim a runner-up spot among the most valuable cards in Secret Wonders.
This card’s price has spiked and dipped unlike any other card in this set, reaching as high as $90 in some cases, while falling as low as $50, leaving a massive range that Lugia could bounce between. Despite the uncertain pricing of this card, Lugia’s likelihood of rising is far greater than the chances this popular Pokemon would fall below its range.
1
Charizard (Holo Rare) – $125.71
A Bold Statement
Charizard makes its home at the top of another list, as some of this Pokemon’s most valuable cards typically top the charts in their respective sets. The Holo Rare Charizard is one of the best cards in Secret Wonders and features the hallmark, simple yet stylish artwork we’ve come to expect from this set.
While data for the cleanest copies of this card is sparse, Charizard’s price continues to swell along with many other copies of this popular Pokemon’s cards. As Charizard cards rise across the board, this chase card stands out as one of the most undervalued, standing tall as the best card from Secret Wonders.
