Now, Overwatch 2 has added some fun Easter eggs in-game to tease the new hero’s upcoming release. Shortly before the Overwatch 2 mid-Season 15 update, fans discovered datapads on different maps containing information on bounty targets, alongside a handful of bolas, crossbow bolts, and other hunting equipment. Overwatch 2 content creators Hazelet, Faalund, and Shroomiiee found these Easter eggs in Esperanca, Junkertown, and Suravasa respectively.
Freja Teasers in Esperanca, Junkertown, and Suravasa in Overwatch 2
Fans who watched Overwatch 2’s recent Freja hero trailer may recognize the names found on these datapads. Damian Barboza, a con artist in Esperanca, Machete Betty, a Junkertown pit fighter, and Sahil “The Wolf” Bhediya, a mercenary in Suravasa, were the three bounty targets Freja delivered to Maximilien in the animated short. Considering the prowess of these individual targets – not to mention their massive bounties – it is clear Freja means business.
These Easter eggs seem to be playing into a greater narrative that Overwatch 2 is unfolding in the game right now. Though its foray into PvE and story missions was fraught with issues and criticism, Overwatch 2 recently stated it has not given up on telling stories in Future Earth quite yet. While it is unclear if players will ever get more story missions, Blizzard has at least been able to continue pushing the narrative forward via comics, short stories, cinematics, and in-game teasers like these.
Players will soon be able to see Freja herself within the game as well. Though she will not be formally added until Season 16 when it begins on April 22, fans can enjoy Freja during her three-day trial period in Overwatch 2 starting March 21. Players should be sure to listen closely during their games over this playtest period, as Freja’s voice lines and hero interactions will most certainly reveal even more interesting tidbits about her history and character.
