There are many different locations throughout the numerous chapters of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Some of them will provide players with fast travel options; others will mark locations where players have collectibles to uncover. Some of these locations will provide players with the opportunity to seek out hidden chests — Old Kofun is one such location.
Old Kofun may seem like a simple pasture among fields. However, players will be able to discover a mineshaft that will lead them through a deep cavernous area. This area will include several chests, and a large number of candles that players can light. Getting lost means it will take longer to complete.

Where to Find Old Kofun in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
This location can be found in the game’s starting region of Izumi Settsu. Zooming in further will reveal the numerous locations in the game. Players should progress the story until they have reached Sakai. To the east of Sakai will be Izumi Coast. Old Kofun can be found directly above this name in the form of a question mark. Once players get close to it, they will see the marker change. This marker will lead them to an opening between 2 rocks where players will leave their mount behind. This is the entrance to Old Kofun.
How to Find the Old Kofun Chest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Navigating these tunnels can get confusing if they don’t pay attention. Luckily, scattered throughout these tunnels will be numerous candles that players can light to remind them which way is the direction they came from. Once players have passed through the entrance, they will drop down a ledge. They will run down a slope into an open room that contains a chest and several candles.
This is not the chest that will complete this area, it’s not that simple.
Crawl through the space and run straight ahead. Be sure to light all the candles you pass to serve as markers to know where you came from. You will eventually find some stairs to run down. Light the candle and then head northwest. You will see light coming from the left wall. Hop over the wall and light the candle on the other side.
Run down the stairs, and you’ll find a wooden platform in front of some water. Light the candle on this platform, then use your grapple to clear the water. Head straight, and you will go down some stairs. To the left there will be another chest you can loot, and to the right, there will be a small space you can squeeze through to continue your journey. Looting these extra chests will be useful for upgrading players’ hideouts.
After squeezing through this opening, you can light the candle on the other side. Players will now see a large pool of water in the room with them. They will need to dive into the pool and make their way to an opening on the other side. Dive deep down, and then head northeast to see some stairs under the water. Players can follow these stairs back up and out of the water.
Players will come to another body of water they will need to grapple over. Players can make it to the doorways on the sides by shimming up and down their grapple before they swing. While players might get an extra chest this way, it is not the chest they seek. Travel southeast to find a room with an opening in the floor you can crawl through.
If players fall into the water, there is only 1 platform they can climb onto to get out. This platform is the side they came from. So they can turn around and grapple from this platform to the other side.
Head east to a room with a large stone coffin, then head southwest. You will go up several steps and come to a long body of water. This water will require players to perform multiple swings to clear. Head southwest after clearing all of these jumps to see a chest become marked on your map. This is the Old Kofun Legendary Chest.
Hold down the prompt button to loot this chest and claim your rewards. Players will need to keep holding down the button until the chest opens, and they see a completion notification appear on their screen for Old Kufan. They will also see their rewards on the right side of their screen. This includes an amazing early game piece of gear for Naoe.
To leave this area, turn east and follow the path until you come to an area that says you are not yet ready to enter. To the right of this spot will be some explosives to blow the wall open, leading players back to their initial first room. Players can use this opening to come back to the cave later.
