The remastered version of the Fishman Island arc has made a major change, and One Piece fans are not happy about it.
Readers always want to see their beloved characters at the center of things in the Final Saga, and there is one individual in the series that Oda seems to have forgotten, but the fans have not. That said, with the recent turn of events, it appears as if Oda will most likely go on to bring back this character sooner rather than later, and he’s none other than the White Chase of the Marines, Vice Admiral Smoker.
How Oda Forgot Smoker
- Smoker Was Beaten By Doflamingo
- Fans Didn’t See His Involvement In The Yonko Saga
Fans know Smoker to be one of the most important characters in the story and there’s absolutely no denying that. He first appeared in Loguetown, and ever since then, Smoker continued to chase Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. Be it the Kingdom of Arabasta or the major battle in Marineford, Smoker was always on Luffy’s tail and it was incredibly exciting to see their rivalry develop. However, the rivalry became rather one-sided when Luffy trained for two years.
I swear it on my name, I will bring Straw Hat down in the Grand Line! — Smoker
Even though Smoker had become a Vice Admiral as well, he was no match for Luffy even without his Gear 4. Towards the end of the Punk Hazard arc, Smoker fought against Doflamingo and ended up losing the battle terribly. Thanks to Kuzan, he still survived, but ever since then, Smoker was essentially cut out of the plot. Fans were anticipating more action from the White Chase, but he didn’t show up at all in the Wano arc, and in Egghead, even when the Marines were seen fighting on the Pirate Island, Smoker was nowhere to be seen.
Smoker Finally Makes A Return After Egghead
Smoker Makes His Comeback After Many Years
In the One Piece world, Smoker has only been gone for a month or two at most. However, in the real world, fans have been without any Smoker content for about a decade now. That said, this is going to change soon enough. Oda intends to bring Smoker into the fold again very soon, and this is evident from his appearance towards the end of the Egghead Island arc. When Tashigi and the other Marines left the Pirate Island and we’re headed towards the closest Navy base, Smoker was seen setting out to the sea on his Billower Bike. He then contacted Tashigi, which makes it seem like Smoker Finally wants to make a big move.
Tashigi…where are you? — Smoke after Egghead
Curiously enough, Smoker wasn’t just traveling, but also transporting something important. At the back of his Billower Bike, fans could see a giant box with an X mark all over it.

Oda had other plans for Marineford initially. One Piece could have been very different.
It is unclear as to what Smoker retrieved and from where. Fans also do not know what his next plan is going forward because Oda has kept his ideas a big secret at the moment. At the very least, however, fans can rest assured that Smoker is returning to the story soon.
Smoker Could Be Involved In The Pirate Island War
Smoker Will Fight Against The Blackbeard Pirates
Given that Smoker made contact with Tashigi, who was recently involved in the battle against the Blackbeard Pirates and is very well aware of Garp having been left behind, she will most likely relay all information to him. Eventually, the negotiations between the Navy and the Blackbeard Pirates will begin, and they’re bound to go sour. If there’s one thing that fans can be sure of, it is that the Navy will fight against the Blackbeard Pirates, and when that happens, Smoker will inevitably get a major role to play in the story. For now, Smoker is on the sidelines, but it is a matter of time before he, along with many other Marines, such as Sengoku, Tsuru, and the members of SWORD, will unite and launch a large-scale attack on Blackbeard.
