Nintendo has issued a reminder to fans that the Gold Points available to My Nintendo members will no longer be earnable starting March 25. Gold Points are a special currency that Nintendo fans can spend on the Switch’s eShop in exchange for games. Switch owners are able to earn Gold Points through both physical and digital game purchases, though digital games dish out more Gold Points than physical ones.
The Gold Points program has proven to be very popular with Nintendo fans. My Nintendo members that purchase enough games for their Switch are essentially able to get a free game with their Gold Points, and so many have made great use of the program over the years. Sadly, Nintendo announced last month that it would be doing away with Gold Points.

A new rumor making the rounds online may reveal yet another game that’s in the works for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo fans will no longer be able to earn Gold Points on March 25, with the company recently issuing a statement on Twitter reminding them of this fact. The reminder came courtesy of Nintendo’s Japanese customer service account, stating that the Gold Points program will end at 12:30am ET on Tuesday, March 25. Gold Points that players already have can still be used until their expiration date. So while many will have Gold Points that they can still use after March 25, fans will not be able to get any new ones from that date on. Needless to say, anyone that has yet to claim Gold Points for any eligible Switch purchases will definitely want to make sure that they do so between now and March 25.
Nintendo Gold Points Can’t Be Earned Starting March 25
Unfortunately for those that may be wondering why Nintendo is doing away with one of its more popular eShop features, the company has not provided any kind of explanation. However, the Gold Points program is going away at a very interesting time for Nintendo. A little over one week after Gold Points go away, Nintendo will be hosting the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct. The next-generation home console/handheld hybrid is expected to launch by June, and when it does, it will be doing so without the Gold Points program in tow.
The launch of a brand-new console may mark the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to do away with the Gold Points program, as customers wouldn’t necessarily expect it to be available on the Switch 2 anyway. Still, it’s sad for dedicated Nintendo fans that Gold Points are going away. It’s possible a new version of the system will be introduced eventually, but for now, Nintendo fans will just have to accept not getting any Gold Points with their purchases.
