As is the case with pretty much every Assassin’s Creed, you’re going to need to get through a fairly involved prologue as Yasuke and Naoe when you first get started in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

How To Retrieve The Box In The Onryo Samurai
Towards the end of Naoe’s prologue and during the mission The Onryo Samurai, she’ll be tasked with heading to Katano Castle to “Retrieve the Box”, a story-important item her father asked her to find. Once you climb over the castle’s wall, Shadows will teach you a few more tricks, such as using the kunai for ranged kills.
Once you’ve done that, though, the non-guided difficulties will leave it up to you to find out how to locate the box. Since the castle area is fairly big and there’s no objective marker, it’s a little difficult to tell where to go. I wandered around a few times and got into a few fights hoping to trigger some kind of guidance before figuring out where the objective was.
You’re not required to head to the big structure towards the entry point of the castle, but if you reach the top then you can get a quick Synchronisation point before even leaving the prologue.
What you actually need to do in this part of the game is head to the Northwest part of the castle grounds as pictured above, where you’ll see a bunch of soldiers training with one another in front of a lit-up banner. Once you get to this section, get as close as you can to the guards to trigger a new tutorial that teaches you how to observe and listen to a target.
After doing this, Naoe will suggest climbing to a tree and using her grappling hook for an assassination, which lets you get ahold of the box and move onto the next part of the prologue. Getting the box isn’t tough and the prologue is basically over after this point, but without knowing where to go it can take a bit of time to find.
Don’t worry, you won’t have to face this situation much after the prologue, as you’ll have Scouts you can send out to find mission objectives. Or better yet, check out our guides!
