How To Complete Kashiwabara Fortress In Assassin's Creed Shadows

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is full of castles, forts, and fortresses that are spread across the vast regions of Japan, hidden in the mountains, or visible in the center of town. While some locations are necessary to visit as part of the main story or other major side quests, other castles are completely optional, leaving you the choice to plunder their legendary loot or not.

Ubisoft Reportedly Has A Plan To Protect Devs From Harassment When Assassin’s Creed Shadows Launches

Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched this week, and Ubisoft has reportedly already put a plan in place to protect devs from harassment.

Since you’re here, the allure of legendary loot in Kashiwabara Fortress was likely too much for you to resist, especially with only a lone Samurai Daisho to defeat. Each area guarded by Samurai Daisho boasts a Legendary Chest that can only be opened once all Daisho are defeated, making this one of the easiest sources of legendary gear in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Where Is Kashiwabara Fortress?

The Kashiwabara Fortress is located far in the northeastern section of the map in the Ibu Highlands section of Omi. You can approach from the north, west, or south, with the nearest fast travel point being the Nagahama Kakurega to the west.

This is one of the shortest fortresses in Assassin’s Creed Shadows with only a single Samurai Daisho to slay before you can set your sights on the Legendary Chest.

Given the small area and lack of targets to hunt down, the Kashiwabara Fortress gives you the best value for your time if you want to hunt Legendary Gear.

How To Find And Assassinate The Samurai Daisho

You’ll find the lone Samurai Daisho in the direct center of the Fortress, patrolling the eastern courtyard.

The first strategy involves careful play and can be risky. Skip to the alternative silent assassination if you’d rather be careful.

The fastest way to kill your target silently is by climbing the ladder and ambushing the Daisho from the tower on the eastern side by luring them over with a Shinobi Bell. You can also let yourself be seen for a moment, then retreat to the safety of the tower, but this might alert the Daisho.

Alternatively, you can take the long way to the opposite side of the courtyard by circling the right side until you’re just above the Samurai Daisho, at which point you can air assassinate him.

This is much safer but takes slightly longer.

What Rewards Do You Get From Kashiwabara Fortress?

The Kashiwabara Fortress is an incredibly small area, but luckily it makes up for it with the Legendary Chest and other solid side loot you can get.

Side Loot

Here’s some of the most notable side loot in the Kashiwabara Fortress.

Since this fortress is small, there is no key or locked door to find, unlike other areas like this.

  • Additional Loot:
    • In the northern section of the Kashiwabara Fortress, in the same area as the synchronization viewpoint, you’ll find three chests: one in a small dilapidated house, one with a possible Legendary weapon right behind that, and one directly across from the small courtyard with crafting supplies and Mon.
    • In the courtyard across from the Samurai Daisho, you’ll find a blue chest on some scaffolding containing a decorative item.
    • On the south side of the fortress, just outside the Daisho’s courtyard, there’s a small chest in a ruined shed with some crafting supplies and Mon.

Legendary Chest

Once you finish the lone Daisho, you’ll find the Legendary Chest for completing the Kashiwabara Fortress in the same courtyard as the Samurai Daisho. It includes:

  • 3,000 exp
  • An Emblem
  • Time-Honored Crescent Legendary Naginata for Yasuke

After you finish off the Samurai Daisho, head north from his courtyard and cross into another area. You’ll need to use your grappling hook to get up, then cross a small courtyard to reach a destroyed tower.

Climb the tower and synchronize at the top, completing Kashiwabara Fortress.
