Assassin’s Creed Shadows – The Fox Assassination Guide
The Shinbakfu is on its last legs, but The Fox stands in the way of you finishing the game – here’s how to take them down.
While there’s no denying that Yasuke is amazing at slashing through hoards of enemies with his powerful weapons, we’re taking a more stealthy approach to Himeji Castle using Naoe. The goal is to silently assassinate every Samurai Daisho in our path, enabling Naoe to slip in and out of Himeji Castle with her rewards.
Where Is Himeji Castle?
Himeji Castle is in the southwestern corner of Harima, sandwiched between Aga and the Kanki Burned Fields.
The closest fast-travel location, other than the viewpoint in the castle, is the Saifukuji Temple south of the castle or the Himeji Kakurega in the southeast.
Approach from the southwestern entrance, and you’ll find an easy route inside, thanks to some scaffolding to the left of the intended entrance near the bridge.
How To Find & Assassinate The First Samurai Daisho
Enter Himeji castle’s southern section, and you’ll find a busy courtyard of people and a few guards.
Use the roofs of the buildings in this southern courtyard to run north across to a large entrance to the main northern area of Himeji Castle.
Get rid of the guard along the left side of the area and continue scaling the scaffolding to the northwestern courtyard of Himeji Castle, high above you, on the cliff.
Make your way to the northernmost wall and then jump across the wire to the next area to the east – another courtyard, but this one has the first Samurai Daisho.
This Daisho is overlooking a small group of soldiers and has another patrolling soldier nearby him.
You can either dispose of the patrolling guard while he’s behind the Daisho or get them both at once with a double assassination. Whichever method you prefer, the best move is to ignore the group of enemies the Daisho is overlooking.
How To Find & Assassinate The Second Samurai Daisho
From here, make a beeline to the perimeter and run along the wall to the northern edge, heading east and upwards, scaling another wall to the next section of the northern garden.
Use the roofs to circle to the bottom half of the perimeter and look toward the southeast where you’ll see another divided area with your second Samurai Daisho in it, across from the largest towers.
This second Daisho is very secluded as he’s all alone on a red bridge. Keep an eye out to make sure no guards will see, then dash behind him to assassinate the second Daisho.
How To Find & Assassinate The Third Samurai Daisho
From there, proceed slightly southeastward until you reach the eastern courtyard with a small pond in it – this is where you’ll find your third Samurai Daisho.
Get to the pond courtyard from the second Daisho by traversing the roofs and using the large towers to jump across to the next section.
In this next section, you’ll find the third Daisho, who is completely alone as well, in his courtyard. There’s nobody nearby, so jump down and feel free to take your time assassinating him.
How To Find & Assassinate The Fourth Samurai Daisho
With the third Daisho down, turn your attention to the fourth Samurai Daisho in the nearby large tower where you might have already gotten to the viewpoint.
Jump down through the trapdoor in the roof to catch the fourth Samurai Daisho unaware, and clear a path to the Legendary Chest for later.
How To Find & Assassinate The Fifth Samurai Daisho
With four Samurai Daisho dead, only one remains. The final Daisho is hiding in the central southern section of Himeji castle, adjacent to the icon in the center.
Head to the eastern half of the southeastern courtyard and the Daisho will be standing alone, with one sitting guard and one patrolling guard nearby.
First, take out the patrolling guard by waiting for him on top of the roof of the house he passes in front of.
From here, your route to the Daisho is clear – take out the fifth Samurai Daisho, then clear out the last nearby guard to secure the area.
What Rewards Do You Get From Himeji Castle?
That took a lot of time, patience, and careful planning, but you took care of all five Samurai Daisho in Himeji Castle and can now claim the side loot, keys, and Legendary chest that awaits you inside.
Side Loot
Himeji Castle is home to plenty of loot, including a combination of keys and doors to go along with the scattered chests you’ll find throughout the area. These chests contain crafting materials, mon, and cosmetics for your Hideout.
- Key: In the eastern section of the castle at the courtyard where you killed the third Samurai Daisho, you’ll find a key lying on a table in the corner near some wood.
- First Door: From the eastern edge of the courtyard where you found the key, you’ll find a locked door about 50 feet to the east, being guarded by two distracted enemies.
- Second Door: In the northern section of the castle near the large tower, you’ll find a black locked door guarded by two men patrolling in a courtyard and another two inside a small house with the locked door.
Inside the first door, you’ll find a rare chest.
Inside the second door is a large resource bundle to smuggle and two smaller ones.

Additional Loot:
- You’ll find your first bit of side loot in a chest inside the building with a crowd outside in the southern courtyard.
- There’s a long building in the far western section of the castle, on the hill. Dispose of the guard outside and two people inside to claim the chest. You’ll also find a red chest at the top of the tower in the northern part of this area.
- In the eastern corner of Himeji Castle, in the courtyard where you killed the third Samurai Daisho, you’ll find a red chest inside a building.
- In the central area below the tower with the legendary chest and fourth Daisho, you’ll find a small chest in the outside courtyard.
- In the southeastern courtyard next to where you killed the fifth Daisho, you’ll find a red chest.
- In the basement of the main tower in the castle, there are seven resource piles to smuggle, one chest, and two smaller resource piles.
Legendary Chest
The Legendary Chest is in the main tower in the northeastern area of the castle. Head toward the top floor and you’ll find the chest which includes:
- 3,000 exp
- An Engraving
- The Defense Master Clothing for Yasuke
If you haven’t already scaled the tower, there’s one last reward for you to claim.
Synchronization Viewpoint
While you’re moving from the second to third Daisho, you’ll come across the large tower in the northeast of Himeji Castle.
Scale this building and at the top, you’ll be rewarded with a Synchronization Viewpoint and a new fast travel spot.
