How To Assassinate The Golden Teppo In Assassin's Creed Shadows

Although most of the assassination targets in Assassin’s Creed Shadows can be done in any order and are left up to the player to decide, that isn’t the case when you first start out.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Leaking Isn’t Good For Anybody

Ubisoft’s open world stealth adventure is out in the wild, and now the damage control begins.

Once you’ve completed the prologue of Shadows and set up the Hideout as Naoe, you’ll have two targets on the board that you can choose to go after. One of those targets is called The Golden Teppo, and there’s a lot you’ll need to do to get the chance to kill them.

Searching Sakai

Where To Find Sokyu

The start point of the Searching Sakai mission in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

The first part of The Golden Teppo assassination takes place in Sakai, which is located southwest of the Hideout. As usual, you can either choose to send some scouts to get the exact location of Imai Sokyu, or take a look at the image we’ve shared above to know where to head towards. Once you’re in Sakai, head to a rooftop and inspect the area with LT on Xbox or L2 on PS5 to find Sokyu.

If you haven’t already, make sure to get the Synchronisation Point on the ship across the water from Sakai. You’ll be heading here a lot, so you’re going to need it!

Sokyu will be marked as a blue dot on the map, so go and talk to him to finish off the mission and start the next chapter.

Dress For Success

How To Find A Kosode

The start point of the Dress for Success mission in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

After talking to Sokyu, Naoe’s quest will be centred around getting ready for a tea ceremony. The first step of this is to acquire a kosode, which are sold in Southwestern Sakai by the docks. This means finding the vendor that sells them, which you can do by using your Scouts or following the blue marker you can see on the map above.

The merchant selling the kosode will tell Naoe that the silk they need has been taken and is on the ship just across from Sakai’s port, which you’ll be familiar with if you’ve bothered to synchronise there. Head over there and take out the bandits to retrieve the silk and bring it back to the merchant. These enemies should be no trouble for you at this point.

Once you’ve brought the silk to the merchant, you can choose whether to have a black or red kosode. This seems to just be a cosmetic choice, so don’t stress about it too much.

The Perfect Gift

Where To Find The Tea Merchant

The starting point of The Perfect Gift in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Once Naoe has the kosode, it’s time to find a gift for the tea ceremony. You’ll need to find a tea merchant who is in, you guessed it, Sakai. You’ll be told that the tea merchant is in one of the outdoor stalls to the North of the town, which you’ll find marked in blue on the map above. Once you reach the merchant, Naoe will be introduced to Sen No Rikyu, who you’ll need to follow for a bit.

Sen No Rikyu will teach Naoe some of the important parts of attending a tea ceremony, such as how to bow, how much to rotate the tea cup, and what gift to take. You can choose any of the dialogue options here since Rikyu will correct you. We’ll let you know what you need to do during the ceremony, but the choice of gift doesn’t seem to matter too much.

I went with the Yixing tea pot since it seemed fitting for a tea ceremony. Imai Sokyu ended up liking it, so that seems like a safe bet, although the others are probably fine too.

The Tea Ceremony

Who Should You Accuse During The Tea Ceremony?

Once you’ve done all of the prep work, it’s time to head back to Imai Sokyu for the tea ceremony. You’ll have this location marked on your map since you’ve already been here, so head over there to kick things off. This quest is mostly more relaxed than the others, but Naoe will have to try and act in a specific way to not get caught out by the other people attending.

This means choosing the right dialogue options and following what Rikyu taught you in the last mission. For starters, you’re going to want to make sure you stick to the same fake name when you introduce yourself to each of the other guests before the ceremony starts. On the few times I tried to be a little hostile or tell a lie, I was caught out, so it’s best to just stay neutral.

When Sokyu asks you to lineup, make sure you choose “Bow halfway” like you were taught. Then, when passing the tea cup along, choose “Turn bowl right twice”, which will impress Sokyu and keep you from looking too out of place. Once you’ve done this, Naoe will have narrowed her targets down to Otama and Wakasa and it’ll be up to you to pick which is The Golden Teppo.

I ended up going with Otama, only to find out that she was the wrong target after I killed her. Wakasa is the one you want to pick, which will give you an easier chance to eliminate her before she gets away.

Defensive Position

Assassinating Wakasa

If, like, me, you didn’t put all of the clues together and simply made a judgement call, Wakasa will run away to Osaka Castle and have to be assassinated there. Don’t worry, though, as she’s one of the easiest targets to take out. Fast-travel to the synchronisation point of Osaka, and then inspect the area to find her marked as a blue dot on the map.

Wakasa will be standing out in the open on a rooftop structure with a single guard nearby, who can be easily taken out with the hidden blade. Take him out and then assassinate her to end the mission and cross another Onryo off your list for good. Finishing this mission will also unlock the Tanto for Naoe to use, as she’ll be awarded the Shinobi’s Fury weapon.
