Frosthaven is getting a video game adaptation, publisher Arc Games has announced. Some PC gamers will be able to jump into its closed beta starting in late March 2025.
Designed by Jason D. Kingsley, Frosthaven is a popular board game that raised nearly $13 million from Kickstarter in 2020, making it the platform’s biggest tabletop crowdfunding campaign to date. It’s a standalone sequel to Gloomhaven, a cooperative tabletop game for up to four players designed by Isaac Childres, who also served as the director for the sequel. Frosthaven began shipping to Kickstarter backers in 2022.

A Frosthaven video game adaptation has now been announced at Future Games Show: Spring Showcase. The March 20 event featured a minute-long trailer largely composed of gameplay footage, which establishes the digital version of Frosthaven as a turn-based tactical RPG. Much like the tabletop original, the Frosthaven video game will support between one and four players.
The video game adaptation of Frosthaven is in development at Snapshot Games, a Bulgarian studio co-founded and led by X-COM creator Julian Gollop. Established in 2013, Snapshot was independent until 2020, when it was acquired by Embracer Group subsidiary Saber Interactive. While a large part of Saber was sold to Beacon Interactive in March 2024, Snapshot wasn’t part of the $247 million deal. The studio has so far produced two titles, the most recent of which is the 2019 strategy game Phoenix Point, which was ported to the PS4, Xbox One, and the now-defunct Google Stadia service in 2021. Snapshot ostensibly started working on Frosthaven soon afterward.
Frosthaven Will Feature New Classes, Outpost Management, and More
The digital version of Frosthaven will feature new character classes, requiring players to carefully consider team compositions and synergies in order to make the most of their limited resources. Outpost management will also be part of the gameplay loop, with certain features and mechanics being locked behind select buildings and upgrades. Frosthaven‘s online co-op multiplayer will support between two and four players.
Frosthaven Closed Beta Is Starting Soon
Frosthaven is currently targeting a 2025 release on PC. It’s presently unclear whether the tactical RPG will eventually make its way to consoles. The game will initially launch as part of the Steam Early Access program. Before that happens, Snapshot is planning a closed beta, which is scheduled to kick off at 9am PT on March 27. The test will run until April 24. Details on how to participate in the beta—which will have limited spots—are available on the game’s official website. The playtest will feature six starting character classes, 20 quests, and some outpost building mechanics.
