Monster Hunter Wilds: Complete Hunting Horn Weapon Guide
Monster Hunter Wilds’ Hunting Horn lets you play offense and support at the same time. Here’s how to play the performance of your life.
While this weapon is perfectly playable solo, it gains massive value when paired with a team, since the buffs can benefit everyone. If you’re looking to pick up Hunting Horn and looking for a build to get you started for the endgame, here’s a guide that will cover all the necessary details, including armor and decoration recommendations.
Hunting Horn Overview
When it comes to the Hunting Horn, weapon selection is critical so that you can get as much value as possible during a fight. The kind of buffs you get will depend on the melodies you play, and that depends on the weapon you are using. Not every Hunting Horn provides the same buffs, and you will have to make the selection depending on your playstyle.
The second crucial aspect of the weapon is its difficulty. Hunting Horn is not a traditional weapon unlike the Long Sword or a Bow, and you will have to learn when to play the melodies, when to dodge monster attacks, and when to play Echo Bubbles to deal damage.
Hunting Horn also has pretty different Decoration requirements when it comes to the weapon, though armor mods won’t be much different from the traditional builds. You should spend some time farming the Apex monsters alongside Tempered Arkveld and Gore Magala for quick access to endgame Decorations.

In the weapon slot, go with Queen Chordmaker which is the Rathian Hunting Horn. Here, you need to slot in Sonorous/KO Jewel Level Three which gives you the Horn Maestro skill. You also need to slot in a Critical Jewel Level 2 and Critical Jewel Level 1 for Critical Boost. The Horn Maestro skill increases the effect duration of the melodies from your Hunting Horn, which is perfect for a support playstyle.
The Queen Chordmaker comes with support skills like Attack Up, Health Recovery and Recovery Speed, which makes it an amazing weapon when playing in a team. If you want something that can deal more damage and works in solo-play, go with Resounding Galahad, the Arkveld Hunting Horn, which comes with melodies such as Echo Wave (Dragon), Knockback Negation and more.
In the head slot, go with the G.Fulgur Helm Beta which is the Fulgur Anjanath Gear, and here you need to slot in a Counter Jewel Level Two. This is because you get the Counterstrike skill, which increases Attack when you get knocked back. While playing Hunting Horn, you will get hit by a monster occasionally, and you can use that to your advantage to boost your damage.
In the chest slot, go with Arkvulcan Mail Beta which is the Arkveld Gear and you need to slot in a Challenger Jewel Level Three and a Mighty Jewel Level Two. The Challenger Jewel gives you Agitator which increases Attack when the monster is enraged. Mighty Jewel gives Maximum Might, which increases Affinity when the stamina bar is full.
In the hand slot, go with G. Fulgur Vambracers Alpha which gives you Agitator and Maximum Might from the armor piece. Additionally, you need to slot in a Sane Jewel Level One here, which gives you the Antivirus skill, which increases Affinity upon curing the Frenzy debuff.
The two-piece Fulgur Anjanath Gear gives you a little extra stamina which gets added to your normal stamina bar. The advantage of this is that the extra stamina is used when you roll, dodge, or execute abilities. However, this extra stamina is not counted towards your primary stamina bar, which helps keep Maximum Might active at all times.
In the waist slot, go with Gore Coil Beta where you need to slot in a Tenderizer Jewel Level Three and a Mighty Jewel Level Two. The Tenderizer Jewel gives you Weakness Exploit while the Mighty Jewel will increase the level of Maximum Might. Both are necessary skills that bring damage and consistency to the build.
In the legs slot, go with Gore Greaves Beta where you need to slot in a Tenderizer Jewel Level Three alongside a Sane Jewel Level One and Physique Jewel Level One. Here, Physique Jewel provides Constitution which reduces stamina depletion. Additionally, the two-piece Gore Magala Gear inflicts you with Frenzy which gets cured upon aggressively damaging the monster and helps trigger Antivirus.
In the charm slot, Exploiter Charm Two is the best since it provides Weakness Exploit and helps level up that skill to the maximum.
If you want, its possible to change Exploiter Charm for Challenger Charm Two for maximum Agitator Buff. However, Exploiter Charm offers more consistency during fights.

Tips To Play Hunting Horn Build
Playing the Hunting Horn can be complex while you are starting out. The idea is to make sure you play the melodies based on how they are shown in the charts. The melody chart will be present at all times on the top right corner of your screen. Make sure you don’t press random melodies as that won’t provide any buffs.
Apart from that, you have to place Echo Bubbles while you are dealing damage. However, these Echo Bubbles are stationary and against monsters that move too much, it can be hard to position those properly. The best time to put these is when the monster is toppled, so that you and your team can deal damage optimally.
Finally, Hunting Horn being a blunt weapon, targeting the head of the monster can cause it to get stunned and topple. As such, try to focus on the head, even though it can be difficult since you might end up carting the first few times when facing monsters like Arkveld and Gore Magala.
