Best Gunslinger Build in Avowed

Best Gunslinger Build in Avowed

The Gunslinger build is the most powerful and efficient setup you can run in Avowed. With dual-wielding pistols for rapid-fire assaults at short to medium range and the devastating arquebus for long-range, high-damage precision shots, you will tear through enemies with insane damage and lethal efficiency.

In most cases, you will clear entire enemy camps before they even get to your position. When played right, the Gunslinger excels at controlling the battlefield. This overwhelming firepower makes the Gunslinger the best build for tackling the brutal Path of the Damned difficulty in Avowed. If you are looking to dominate the Living Lands with style and efficiency, the Gunslinger build is your go-to choice.

How to Build the Best Gunslinger in Avowed

Avowed - Draw

The Gunslinger build is meant to blast enemies from range while staying on the move, taking down priority targets like healers and casters before focusing major threats. Once your Gunslinger is fully geared, you will be stunning enemies left and right, setting them up for power shots and obliteration.

Best Stats

Avowed - Gunslinger Stats

Might and Dexterity should be your main priority stats when leveling up a Gunslinger in Avowed. Might increases your raw damage, while Dexterity increases your reload speed and weapon-switching speed. Since firearms have to reload after every shot in Avowed, faster reloads and quickly switching loadouts are quite necessary.

After maxing out Might and Dexterity, the next attribute a Gunslinger should prioritize is Perception to increase your maximum range. It also increases your critical hit chance, but Gunslingers are expected to always take headshots, which are critical hits by default. So, the increased critical hit chance is of no use unless you are a bad shot.

Finally, take a pick between Constitution and Resolve. Constitution improves your health and resistance against poison and bleed damage, which proves useful in the end-game regions. On the other hand, Resolve is equally helpful in increasing your maximum stamina and second wind chance. It all depends on your gameplay style. If you are good at kiting enemies and dodging attacks, go with Resolve.

Best Skills

Below are six core abilities that form the backbone of every Gunslinger build in Avowed. They are essential for making the build work as intended, providing the firepower and synergy needed to dominate every encounter.

  • Steady Aim slows down time to let you land headshots with ease. At level 3, it almost feels like cheating.
  • Evasive reduces the stamina cost for dodging attacks, an important early-game skill to have.
  • Shadowing Beyond makes you invisible to land Divine Thorn stealth attacks for massive damage. It also helps you lose aggro, escape messy situations, or loot enemy camps without shedding blood.
  • Marksmanship increases damage done by guns—straightforward but absolutely essential.
  • Quick Switch increases equip speed, so you can quickly switch back and forth between your pistols and arquebus after every shot.
  • Staggering Shot increases stun damage done by guns, allowing you to fill stun meters faster and opening enemies to powerful attacks.

Do not be afraid to spend two points in Scavenger. It helps with getting upgrade materials, which you need a ton of to upgrade your weapons and armor. You can always respec before the final quest to spend those two points elsewhere.

Barbaric Shout from the Fighter skill tree is a critical late-game skill for Gunslingers in Avowed. It nearly doubles the stun damage you deal with guns. While you might not find stun that effective during the early or mid-game, you will eventually face swarms of beefy enemies trying to get in your face. Filling their stun meters with fewer shots than normally required can be the difference between life and death, like when facing the Congasar and Crusta ogres.

Dawnshore, the starting region, has most of your starting gear. The Disappointer, Caeroc’s Pride, and the Blackwing set will last you until you reach Galawain’s Tusks. You will also come across several rings and trinkets that complement your build.

When you get to Emerald Stair, get your hands on One Last Trick. It is the best and only arquebus you need in Avowed. Assuming that you are also upgrading your weapons along the way, the Disappointer, Caeroc’s Pride, and One Last Trick pack enough firepower to lay waste to any enemy camp you find along the way.

For an even quicker start, buy yourself common pistols from the merchant as soon as you arrive in Dawnshore.

Best Companions and Training Rewards

Avowed - Companions Wallpaper

Kai and Giatta are the best companions to have in Avowed regardless of the situation or build. Kai acts as a front-line tank and aggro machine, while Giatta heals and shields. Their combined abilities ensure that you are safe and free to pick your targets at range. As for their companion training rewards, be sure to pick the right dialogue to unlock the following stats:

  • Kai: +2 Might
  • Marius: +2 Dexterity
  • Giatta: +2 Resolve
  • Yatzli: +2 Perception

How to Play the Gunslinger Build in Avowed

Avowed - Wailing Souls

There are a few gameplay loops that enable a Gunslinger to do insane amounts of damage in Avowed within a few actions. Following a certain order of attacks and skills is necessary to achieve the perfect combat flow. Here is how to approach every fight:

  • Sneak your way in and open the fight with your arquebus. Depending on your distance and action speed, you can fire off two shots before enemies react.
  • Change loadouts and fire your dual pistols twice.
  • Switch back to your arquebus, which should now be reloaded, and continue the assault.
  • Use Tanglefoot to trap persistent enemies, especially those with large health bars.
  • Call Kai and your Bear Ally to taunt enemies. Position them in different directions to create two enemy clusters instead of just one, making it easier to thin the crowd.

Always deal power (charged) shots to the head!

This combat loop should handle most enemy camps, but sometimes you may bite off more than you can chew. When you are overwhelmed and lack the damage to eliminate enemies quickly, you will need to rely on Shadowing Beyond. Here is how:

  • Open the fight with your arquebus as usual.
  • Switch loadouts to continue the assault.
  • Have Kai taunt a tanky target.
  • Use Shadowing Beyond to assassinate Kai’s target or another priority enemy.
  • Fire off your arquebus immediately after exiting Shadowing Beyond, aiming at the same target if it is still alive or any nearby enemy.
  • Switch to your pistols and unleash chaos.

Shadowing Beyond + two power shots from your dual pistols is usually enough to kill most tanky enemies. Bosses, however, are a different story.
