Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Start-Up Screens Can Be Deleted To Save Time

Summary

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows has seven unskippable splash screens.
  • You can delete these splash screens to make start-up faster.
  • You save about 30 seconds by doing this.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is upon us. The series faithful is now romping around feudal Japan, assassinating scores of samurai and toppling the odd warlord or two. However, there’s a big barrier to entry for players playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows on PC – the number of unskippable splash screens that appear upon launching the game.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has seven different splash screens before the main menu appears, adding up to around 30 seconds of splash screens in total. For some, splash screens are part of the experience – a precursor to a fun time spent playing a triple-A. For others, splash screens are merely an obstacle to button mash through until they can start playing the game.

Time is Money

If you’re in the latter camp, then Reddit user Kilpik has the perfect solution to your woes. If you navigate to the folder where Assassin’s Creed Shadows is installed, then you can quite easily delete each of the splash screens. Rather than breaking your installation, this will just expedite your start-up process by loading the game straight to the start screen. You need not gaze upon the Intel logo if you do not wish to.

This is a roundabout way of achieving Xbox’s “quick resume” feature that allows you to jump right back into the action. It may not seem like something that’s worth doing, but saving 30 seconds every time you launch Assassin’s Creed Shadows adds up. That’s 30 seconds you could be using to scale the various buildings of feudal Kyoto.

“I get that they have to include the warnings, but they could at least let you skip them, along with the logo screens,” comments CollinKree. “I know who made the game and what engine they used. I don’t care man, just let me play.”

While most games allow you to rapidly button mash through splash screens, Ubisoft is determined to make you sit through them. A couple of commenters in the aforementioned thread have said that they delete splash screens in every Ubisoft game for this reason.

After you inevitably launch Assassin’s Creed Shadows one-thousand times to marvel upon the flora and fauna of the Japanese countryside, you’ll appreciate the 8 hours you saved from deleting the game’s splash screens. Time is mon, people.
