Out of all the castles you can find, the Shoryuji Castle is quite unique as it’s not built near a city. The castle itself has the city within it, which makes the entire area hostile. You have to eliminate three Daisho before getting the chest in this one.
How To Find And Enter Shoryuji Castle
Before you start exploring the Shoryuji Castle, you’ll first have to find it in the Yamashiro province. You start the game in Izumi Settsu province when you first get past the prologue, which means that you’ll have to do quite a bit of the main story before you can tackle Shoryuji as its level is quite high.
After you reach the Yamashiro region, you’ll first find the Yamazaki city on the southern edge. Move north from this city and you can find the Shoryuji Castle near the river separating different parts of land in Yamashiro. Once you’ve reached this castle, you can simply enter either through the northern bridge on the left or the buildings on the northeast.
How To Find And Defeat All Samurai Daisho In Shoryuji Castle
When you enter a hostile castle for the first time in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, your first objective is to defeat all Samurai Daisho in it. These are special enemies found at specific locations, and they don’t respawn with season reset, unlike other enemies. Samurai Daisho are fairly easy to defeat as long as your gear is leveled up.
Here’s how you can get all three Daisho in Shoryuji:
-
-
The first Daisho is technically outside the Shoryuji Castle as he can be found to the right when you’re entering through the northwestern bridge. While in this area, you’ll first have to defeat the two guards in front of the bridge.
Once that’s over, wait for the Daisho to make his rounds as he’ll notice the guards’ body during it. This will make him come towards the body, making him an easy target for you.
Even if you can’t fully assassinate a Daisho from behind, it’s still recommended to start with an assassination as this will lower his HP.
If you’re playing as Naoe, you can also throw a smoke bomb after the first attempt and then assassinate him again a few seconds later.

After defeating the first Daisho, enter the castle through the main doors and use your Kunai to defeat the soldiers on the right. Once that’s done, you have to make your way to the courtyard on the right.
The second Daisho can be found just to the right of where “Castle” is written on the map. You’ll have to use some smoke bombs for this one as enemies have line-of-sight in every direction.
-
-
For the last Daisho, you have to move directly south from the second one. There will be a bridge to cross the river dividing the two parts of this castle, and the Daisho can be found to the south of this river.
Start by assassinating the northern guard on the river and then throwing Kunai at the two near the Daisho. After that, you can take a head-on battle with him.
The Shoryuji Castle has multiple bell towers in it. If you get detected, one of the enemies will try to climb the tower and ring the bell. If they succeed in doing that, you’ll get the wanted status on the character you’re playing with. All enemies will start attacking you on sight when you have this status, even outside the hostile zones.
To avoid getting attacked, you can either switch to the other character or, with certain upgrades to your hideout, clear the wanted status with your scouts. The status automatically goes away when the season resets. Of course, the best-case scenario is not letting the guard ring the bell in the first place.
You might also encounter guardians in this castle, and these enemies are thrice as difficult to kill as a Daisho.
The guardians will also attack you if you get detected, so the best way to do this castle is through stealth.
How To Get The Legendary Chest In Shoryuji Castle
After defeating all three Samurai Daisho in Shoryuji Castle, you’ve successfully finished the first main goal. You can now finish the second goal and reap your rewards by unlocking the legendary chest here. This chest can be found in the main building where you’ll also see a fast travel point at the top.
With Naoe, you can grapple to the side of the building from any direction. Instead of going inside, it’s recommended to climb to the very top since you’ll find a hatch here beside the fast travel. You can use this hatch to get inside the castle from the top. After that, take the first stairs down, assassinate the two samurai here, and you can get the chest.
This part of the Shoryuji Castle exploration becomes a lot easier if you have double assassination skill unlocked.
You’ll get the Yurei-Walker Robes Naoe armor in this chest with the Silent Footsteps engraving. With this engraving, enemies will have a lower chance of detecting sounds made by you. Apart from this chest, you can find a ton of smaller chests across the castle.
When you’re here, make sure to consistently use observer mode to mark these chests in yellow. You’ll find a chest in nearly every building, and these can give you resources, gear, and Mon. The rewards from these chests are random as they reset with every season reset.
Shoryuji Castle Key And Stockpile Locations
Shoryuji Castle is unique in many ways, and one of these is the presence of a key that you need to unlock various sheds found across the castle. This key can be found in the secluded group of buildings on the northwest side of the castle (marked as a circle in the picture above). You’ll find it inside the top building here when you use observer mode.
This key is quite important as the sheds it unlocks contain loot and stockpiles. The latter can be marked as long as you have some available scouts, and you’ll get a bunch of the marked resources at the season reset. Here are all the stockpiles you can find in Shoryuji Castle:
- The first shed can be found on the right side of the same group of secluded buildings where you find the key.
- The second one can be found on your left as soon as you enter the castle from the northwestern bridge.
- You can find a bunch of stockpiles on the bottom floor of the main building in Shoryuji Castle, but some of them require the key to be available.
- Another shed can be found in the group of buildings to the southeast of the castle.
- Finally, you can get the last shed in the secluded group of buildings to the left of the one above.
You won’t be able to mark all these stockpile resources even if you have the maximum available scouts, so it’s important to pick and choose. Ideally, you’d want to mark all the mineral stockpiles and then choose the ones you need the most.
