Each guild has a unique name that makes it iconic and recognizable. That said, why is Sung Jin-Woo’s guild called Ahjin? Is there a meaning behind this unusual guild name?
Sung Jin-Woo decides to create his guild with D-rank hunter Yoo Jin-Ho as Vice Master, rather than join one of the more established guilds in South Korea. Despite Choi Jong-In and Baek Yoon-Ho’s attempts to recruit Jin-Woo, he rejects their offer and creates the Ahjin Guild for his interests. Thankfully, Charman Go Gun-Hee of the Hunters Association gives Jin-Woo his blessing in exchange for his loyalty to the nation. Before Sung Jin-Woo obtained an S-rank hunter license, he worked for the Hunter Association as an E-rank hunter. Due to his limited skills and abilities, no powerful guild in South Korea needed his services. It’s the Hunter Association who had Jin-Woo’s back, as they did for other low-level hunters who need to earn money and support the expenses of their family. Despite this, Sung Jin-Woo declines Chairman Go Gun-Hee’s offer to join the Hunter Association after he obtains immense power. If Jin-Woo decides to accept the job offer of the association, he will not be allowed to raid dungeons anymore, which will cause a huge problem on his part. Since Jin-Woo desires to keep getting stronger, he needs to raid as many high-level dungeons as possible.

Instead of joining the Hunters Guild or the White Tiger Guild, Sung Jin Woo decides to create the Ahjin Guild, which later becomes the strongest guild in the series. His main goal behind the guild’s establishment is to secure high-level gates, which he can raid alone. The Hunter Association has no choice but to look the other way and give the Ahjin Guild a special favor in exchange for Jin-Woo’s loyalty to South Korea and avoiding a second Hwang Dong-Soo situation.
Why Is Jin-Woo’s Guild Called Ahjin?
Among both prominent and lesser-known guilds in South Korea, the Ahjin Guild stands out with a peculiar name. An ordinary hunter looking to join might wonder why the guild is called Ahjin in the first place, unlike those hunters who would go to the Fame Guild, the Fiend Guild, or even the Knights Guild. Understandably, an ordinary hunter can probably explain why the Whiter Tiger Guild is called this way just by seeing Baek Yoon-Ho’s transformation. However, in the case of the Ahjin Guild, it would take time for Jin-Woo and its members to explain why they chose that name over the others.
Yoo Jin-Ho’s Guild Name Suggestions
In the beginning, Yoo Jin-Ho is the one who is extremely excited about giving a name to their guild. He suggests different names for Jin-Woo, from Sung-Yoo guild, Yoo-Sung guild, Jin-Jin guild, to even Woo-Ho guild—all these potential names were inspired by the combination of their last names or from the syllables of their names. He was truly having a hard time choosing, as one name had a better ring to it than the last.

Sung Jin-Woo’s Guild Name Suggestion
Jin-Woo wants to name the guild the Solo Player guild, much to Yoo Jin-Ho’s surprise. He believes Solo Player fits the guild’s situation since he basically hunts monsters and raids gates by himself. Jin-Ho receives it as a joke, mocking Jin-Woo’s naming sense. He even reflects that Jin-Woo is still a human who is not good at everything. Still, Jin-Woo has the last say on the guild’s name. Cha Hae-In also looks confused when she first hears about Solo Player. She didn’t say anything, but her reaction spoke volumes about her thoughts on Jin-Woo’s guild.
Sung Jin-Woo’s Sister Comes up With a Different Suggestion
Sung Jin-Woo’s sister, Jin-Ah, is the person responsible for the Ahjin guild’s name. She hated the Solo Player guild name, telling her brother that it didn’t even fit the situation. She also bluntly tells Jin-Woo that he’s not hunting by himself since he’s summoning a lot of his shadows to help finish the job. That’s when Jin-Ah comes up with Ahjin, with Ah meaning “I” and Jin meaning “to go forward.” In addition, Ahjin is also Jin-Ah’s name spelled backward, which Jin-Woo thinks is not bad.

Regardless of the name, Jin-Woo’s guild will always be a powerful force in the world. Despite only having three members, hunters would most likely talk about Jin-Woo’s guild and how it operates differently from the rest of the guilds in Solo Leveling rather than the meaning behind its name.
