Assassin’s Creed Shadows encourages players to explore its vast map, find activities to complete, and earn points after leveling up to invest in abilities. However, players should know about two types of points: Mastery and Knowledge points. Both play an important role in expanding the number of abilities for both Yasuke and Naoe and can be acquired by doing activities within AC Shadows. Let’s explore their differences.

What’s the Difference Between Knowledge and Mastery Points in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
Knowledge and Mastery points are the two core aspects when it comes to unlocking new abilities in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. While they can be acquired by grinding various activities in the game, both have different functions within the skill trees.
For starters, the Knowledge points increase the Knowledge ranks within the skill trees, allowing players to gain access to higher tiers of abilities. There are a total of six knowledge rank tiers that players will gradually unlock as they progress through the game. Each row of abilities in a skill tree is associated with a knowledge rank, and unlocking a knowledge rank applies to all the skill trees for both characters.
On the other hand, Mastery points are used to unlock individual ability nodes within Knowledge ranks. Some abilities can require a single Mastery point, while others can require five to seven points depending on how powerful it is.
How to Gain Knowledge & Mastery Points?
The Mastery points are the easiest to get, as players primarily earn them by leveling up. Other sources include completing open-world challenges or taking on high-level opponents like Samurai Daishō in castles. Additionally, Mastery points can also be earned after completing various side quests in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
To get Knowledge points, players will have to invest their time in completing side activities marked with an orange hexagon on the map. These activities include collecting scrolls in temples, praying at shrines, meditating at Kuji-Kiri spots as Naoe, and competing in horse archery as Yasuke.
Completing each activity rewards players with one Knowledge point. Players will need a certain number of knowledge points to unlock the next Knowledge rank in skill trees for all characters. Do note that knowledge or mastery points are shared across both characters, regardless of who you play as in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
