After the unstoppable success of Baldur’s Gate 3, fans were disappointed to learn that Larian Studios will not be returning to make another game in the series. There’s not enough I can write about how much passion went into the game from the studio, but the reality is that if Baldur’s Gate 4 were to be green-lit, it would be made by another studio.

The project was a partnership between Hasbro – who owns Wizards of the Coast, the rights to the IP, and all its D&D elements – and Larian, who acquired the license to turn it into the video game that we all love. It would be a huge missed opportunity if they didn’t make a fourth game. While there’s no news yet on a possible fourth game, Hasbro will be sharing news about the future of Baldur’s Gate “in pretty short order.”
Will There Be A Baldur’s Gate 4?
Speaking to IGN at GDC 2025, senior vice president of digital games at Hasbro Dan Ayoub said that they are still trying to figure out the future of the Baldur’s Gate series, but will be making an announcement pretty soon. There have been no rumours about which studio will work on the next game, or if there will even be a Baldur’s Gate 4.
“We’re kind of working out our plans for the future and what we’re going to be doing with that,” said Ayoub. “And actually, in pretty short order, we’re going to have some stuff to talk about around that.”
This doesn’t really tell us anything about a possible next game in the series except that all parties are talking about the future of the franchise. It seems we’re going to have to wait to find out what Hasbro has planned for the future of the IP, but we know that Larian will move on from Baldur’s Gate 3 as Patch 8 will be the final major update.
Fans are pretty disappointed that Larian will not be working on another Baldur’s Gate game, especially given how much work and passion went into BG3. Whoever takes on the developer role for the next game has some pretty big shoes to fill.
