Marvel’s Wolverine was originally announced all the way back in September 2021, where it appeared in the PlayStation Showcase alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. But while Spider-Man 2 has been out for well over a year now, there’s still no sign of Wolverine. No official update from Insomniac or Sony has been given on Marvel’s Wolverine since 2021. There’s been not a hint of story or gameplay, or even any behind-the-scenes teases.
But Insomniac taking its time is far from a bad thing. It’s presumably a lot of pressure to deliver a good superhero game, let alone one centered around one of the most beloved Marvel characters of all time, and Insomniac should take as long as it needs to ensure it lives up to those lofty expectations. While that might mean the continuation of an already long wait, that might also result in a few extra outfits for the fan-favorite Mutant.

A Deadpool and Wolverine Skin Is a Must-Have for Marvel’s Wolverine
Yet another record-breaking cinematic outing for the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool & Wolverine was the second highest-grossing movie of 2024, earning $1.3 billion at the box office, and coming just behind Pixar’s Inside Out 2. Though its critical reception was a bit of a mixed bag, Deadpool & Wolverine was undoubtedly the shot in the arm the MCU needed, rewarding fans with copious amounts of fan-service, much of which revolved around the return of Hugh Jackman as one half of the movie’s eponymous Mutants.
Jackman knocked it out of the park once again with his performance as Wolverine, and the movie’s R-rating paved the way for some of the best Wolverine action sequences put on screen yet. Deadpool & Wolverine‘s costume design (courtesy of Graham Churchyard and Mayes C. Rubeo) was also top-notch, finally bringing the classic yellow and blue costume to life in a believable way.
Regardless of personal opinions on the movie’s writing, plot, or any other technical features, there’s no denying that Deadpool & Wolverine‘s version of Logan is an incredibly memorable one, and one that’s certainly worthy of an appearance in Marvel’s Wolverine as an alternate costume.
An Ultimate Wolverine Costume Would Be Great to See in Marvel’s Wolverine
Along with Deadpool & Wolverine‘s blue and yellow suit, there are other costumes that might get a shot at appearing in Marvel’s Wolverine now that otherwise might not have if the game was released earlier. One such costume comes from the current Ultimate Wolverine comic run.
Set in the new version of the Ultimate Universe (Earth-6160) that came from The Maker’s multiverse-meddling in Ultimate Invasion, Ultimate Wolverine follows an alternate version of Logan who’s working for the Rasputin family as the mind-controlled Winter Soldier. This new version of Wolverine comes equipped with an all-new costume, blending the classic brown suit with the Winter Soldier’s metallic mask.
It would be great to see this costume come to Marvel’s Wolverine when it eventually launches, hopefully being just one of many alternate outfits that reference the Mutant’s long and storied comic book career, including both classic designs and some more recent iterations.
