Should You Choose Scout Intel or World Rumor in Assassin's Creed Shadows?

As they explore the game’s gigantic open world, Assassin’s Creed Shadows players will occasionally come across NPCs who need help. Some of them could be getting attacked or hassled by guards or bandits, while others may be in need of some words of advice or encouragement following a turbulent event in their past.

Every Assassin’s Creed Game, Ranked

From the original to now, every Assassin’s Creed game has its highs and lows, but which is the best?

If players decide to stop and help these people, they’ll be asked to choose between World Rumor or Scout Intel as their reward, but the game never really makes it clear what either of these options actually means. The following guide will explain the choice and which of the two options Assassin’s Creed Shadows players should go with.

World Rumor or Scout Intel, Explained

Choosing the World Rumor option will add a new point of interest to the map. If players decide to go with Scout Intel, the number of scouts available to them will increase by one. Just to be clear, choosing Scout Intel will not increase the maximum number of scouts players can have, but rather replenish one of the scouts that they’ve used since the last season change.

Rather than making a point of interest appear on the map with its usual icon, World Rumors will be displayed as a black-and-white circle with a map marker inside, making them much easier for players to find.

To a certain degree, whether or not players should choose World Rumor or Scout Intel will be determined by their playing style, although Scout Intel is arguably the more useful of the two options in the long run. Even when playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows with Guided Exploration turned on, scouts can be used for smuggling resources from castles and forts, making them incredibly useful for those looking to upgrade their hideout. Ultimately, though, these encounters are fairly frequent when traveling around on foot or horseback, so players needn’t stress too much about the decision.

Interestingly, there are a few situations where the game ends up making the choice for them. If players haven’t used any of their scouts since the last season change and are already at maximum capacity, the game will automatically give them a World Rumor. Conversely, if players have already found every point of interest on the map, they’ll be forced to take the Scout Intel option.
