Stranger Things star Sadie Sink will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play a currently unnamed character in Spider-Man 4. The news has created plenty of buzz among MCU fans due to the quality of Sink’s work up until this point in her career, but the talk has immediately turned to who Sink will play.

She’s someone who had been rumored to be joining the MCU for a while in a very specific role, but at this point, there has been no confirmation of who she will be in Spider-Man 4. There is no shortage of characters for whom Sink would fit the bill, but there’s one character from Marvel’s history who is the best option.

MCU Rumors Point Toward Sadie Sink Being A Member Of The X-Men

Long before Sink was confirmed to be part of the upcoming Spider-Man 4 cast, she was rumored to be taking on the role of Jean Grey. The actress ticks plenty of obvious boxes regarding that character, and with Marvel Studios about to launch the X-Men into the MCU, it is expected that the cast will be revealed at some point. The MCU version of this group is expected to be younger so that they can be used for a long time to come, which is why Sink would work portraying Grey. She’s an actress with genuine star power; therefore, putting her in one of the most important roles in the X-Men franchise would make sense.

However, there are questions about why she would then be debuting in Spider-Man 4. It has been confirmed that Marvel intends to slowly introduce the X-Men to tease them rather than dropping them all in at once, but she would potentially feel out of place within this movie. Debuting one of the X-Men’s most powerful characters, it doesn’t feel like this is the best place for her first to appear.

Sadie Sink Should Portray a Different Iconic MCU Character

Seeing Sink play an MCU hero would be a lot of fun, but an equally compelling character is available that feels more fitting of Spider-Man 4. That would see her take on the role of Gwen Stacy. Up until this point, Zendaya’s MJ has been the love interest for Peter Parker, which has tapped into her genuine chemistry with her real-life partner Tom Holland. However, the spell that Doctor Strange cast in Spider-Man: No Way Home means that she no longer remembers Parker, and that could lead to him being given a new love interest in the form of Stacy. It’s a role Sink could play perfectly, and it freshens things up for the franchise.

It has been reported that Zendaya will have a minor role in Spider-Man 4 due to her schedule; therefore, moving on to the character of Stacy could be well-timed. Spider-Man 4 is also slated to have a different supporting cast, which is another reason why Sink might end up taking on this role, as it would provide something new for the movie. Even if Stacy isn’t a romantic partner for Spider-Man, there are still many ways that Marvel Studios could implement her in a bid for it to feel exciting and fresh. Plus, playing Stacy would add to the Spider-Man franchise, which is what this movie should be all about.

Spider-Man 4 Not Featuring Mutants Will Benefit Peter Parker

Another positive reason for Sink to portray Stacy instead of Grey is that it will overshadow Spider-Man less. Fans want to see a strong supporting cast of characters in each movie, but Peter Parker is ultimately the lead role in this movie, and that’s something that should be reflected in the story. It has been a problem throughout several Spider-Man movies so far in the MCU, where Holland’s character has been overlooked and not focused on. Whether it was pushing Iron Man or having all of the multiverse characters in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the lead role of the previous three movies has sometimes felt like an afterthought.

Adding in an X-Men character would risk repeating that fate. Grey is far more powerful than Spider-Man, which would make him look slightly weaker, while the entire focus of the movie would be on whether or not other mutants would turn up and how the film would relate to the launch of the X-Men moving forward. That’s not something that should happen in Spider-Man 4, as this is one of the biggest franchises that Marvel Studios has outside of Avengers movies. While it can be fun to throw in cameos, there’s such a thing as too many, and Grey might be an example of that. Stacy is someone whom MCU fans have wanted to see for a long time, and with Sink, there is an opportunity to make that happen in Spider-Man 4 and create a massive storyline moving forward.
