Pokemon Fan Crochets Chimchar and Its Evolutions

A Pokemon fan artist crocheted a trio of fan-favorite critters, as Chimchar, Monferno, and Infernape were made into dolls. The Pokemon fan artist shared a picture of the fiery Chimchar doll lineup on social media and was complimented by other fans for their creativity and attention to detail with their crochet crafts.

Known as the Chimp Pokemon, Chimchar first appeared in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl as the Fire-type starter of the Sinnoh region. Its starter counterparts are Turtwig and Piplup. Chimchar subsequently evolves into Monferno at level 14, and into Infernape at level 36. When it evolves into Monferno, the Chimchar line gains the Fighting type as its secondary type. A fully-trained Infernape is a fast and versatile sweeper that uses a mixture of attacks like Flamethrower, Close Combat, and Throat Chop. Chimchar can be found in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet after upgrading the Terarium’s Polar Biome.

Given how popular Chimchar is in the Pokemon franchise, one fan artist crafted a crochet tribute to the simian Pokemon. On the r/Pokemon subreddit, a Reddit user named andre4k shared a crochet doll of Chimchar, Monferno, and Infernape. Each doll was placed on a small table and ladder for a picture, which symbolized the athletic ability of each Pokemon. Chimchar was made with light brown and dark orange yarn, while Monferno used a lighter shade of orange and darker shades of brown and blue. The Infernape crochet doll was crafted with white and yellow yarn, along with some of the dark orange used for the Chimchar doll.

Andre4k also crocheted tails onto Monferno and Infernape, with yellow and red yarn added to Monferno’s tail tip. Infernape’s flame was added to the crown of its head. The three Pokemon were grouped into a picture that was shared by andre4k. These Pokemon dolls are not the first crafted works that andre4k made, as they had previously made an impressive Regigigas doll in late 2024. Pokemon trainers complimented andre4k on the proportions of each of the crochet dolls. andre4k added that their girlfriend was the one who used the ladder and table to place Chimchar, Monferno, and Infernape during the photo shoot. Other fans shared nostalgic comments about Chimchar and the Pokemon games it appeared in.

Although other starter Pokemon like Charmander, Torchic, and Litten are reliable picks, Chimchar and its evolutions are among the top Fire-type Pokemon in the series. With Pokemon Legends: Z-A arriving later this year, only time will tell if the Chimchar line will make an appearance.
