Summary
- Mortal Kombat 1 has finally added T-1000, the iconic Terminator 2 villain, to the roster.
- Given that he dresses like a cop, a lot of fans are already comparing him to Stryker, who debuted in 1995.
- While Stryker does appear as a kameo in MK1, many are happy to have a vaguely Stryker-esque character as a main choice, with some even calling for NetherRealm to add a cosplay skin.
The iconic Terminator 2 villain, T-1000, was finally added to Mortal Kombat 1’s roster yesterday, and he’s as menacing and stoic as ever. But he’s also a new fighter dressed like a cop, so guess who people are comparing him to.
“I knew they’d add Stryker in eventually,” u/I_fakin_hate_bayle said. “Makes me miss Stryker,” u/Diamago commented on another thread.
There isn’t much connection between the two other than the uniform, but despite his middling beginnings in Mortal Kombat 3 way back in 1995, Stryker quickly become a fan-favourite. So, of course, everyone’s jumping at the notion of an even vaguely Stryker-shaped character.
Stryker Is In Mortal Kombat 1
I’ve got good news for u/Diamago, though. Fire God Liu Kang was kind enough to bring back Stryker for his new universe, albeit as a more subdued kameo.
While he’s still a member of the force, gone is most of the cop imagery (including his police uniform), likely to distance the character from his out-of-touch origins. Even as recently as 2011, in Mortal Kombat 9, his character boiled down to an aggressive cop shooting his way through problems, with his finishers brazenly making light of police brutality.
T-1000, being a clear villain, is far less jarring than the ‘heroic’ Stryker, and I can’t really imagine a world where he returns as a main character again. But maybe a Stryker skin for someone like T-1000 would fit better, as suggested by u/thunderboyac.
Honestly giving him a Stryker skin would be cool.
If you don’t have early access, you can try out T-1000 just next week when he launches proper on March 25.
