Summary
- Monster Hunter Wilds fans are upset with the changes to the Bowguns, calling the game an “unbelievable step backwards” for the weapon.
- Most of the complaints are aimed at the weapon’s lack of ammo it can carry, the recoil on Spread shots, and the removal of Wyvernsnipe ammo.
- Some fans are trying to urge others to directly mention the disappointing state of Bowguns in Capcom’s feedback survey, in an attempt to get the weapon some buffs.
Monster Hunter Wilds has an arguably overwhelming number of weapons to choose from, and all fourteen of them are thrust upon you right from the off, with the game telling you to pick a weapon and get hunting. Most of them are pretty fun (longsword gang unite), each one matching a certain playstyle, but let’s all pour one out for any newcomer that decides to go for the Bowgun right out the gate.
Like all weapons in the game, Bowguns have their uses, but quite a lot of fans of the series aren’t happy with how Bowguns actually handle in Monster Hunter Wilds, with one popular post on the game’s subreddit recently calling their tweaks in the game an “unbelievable step backwards” for the weapon.
Monster Hunter Fans Aren’t Happy With Wilds’ Bowguns
This post was made by a user called Blahaj_Kell_Of_Trans, who bemoans the lack of ammunition that Bowguns can hold before you have to craft more, the ridiculous recoil on shots like Spread, and the general inadequacy of other ammunition types like Slice and Sticky. They go on to wish that Bowguns just had a wide and varied amount of ammunition at all times, that allow them to switch constantly depending on the situation.

Monster Hunter Wilds Is Great But I Don’t Think I’m Playing It Right
Monster Hunter Wilds is the best Monster Hunter I’ve ever played – but I’m not sure I’ve actually played it.
Their frustrations with the Bowguns seem to be shared by a lot of fans, as the replies solely consist of others sharing their complaints. One of the more popular comes from a user called PaliacciGrim, who hates that Wyvernsnipe ammo from Monster Hunter World has been removed this time around. The lack of Wyvernsnipe ammo has even convinced another user called Ravvs_ that the weapon is no longer “worth playing anymore”.
Most of the replies are full of the same complaints, with people claiming that Bowguns have been “completely neutered” and annoyed that other weapons have largely stayed the same during the switch from World to Wilds. Blahaj_Kell_Of_Trans is doing their best to get people to complete Capcom’s feedback survey and mention Bowguns specifically to try and get some buffs in the future. Only time will tell whether Capcom will listen though.
