Marvel Rivals has a pretty big roster of heroes to choose from (some would argue too big), each one with their own strengths and weaknesses. While there are clear favorites and meta picks, almost all of them are viable in competitive play if you’re familiar with the character’s kit and can get the best out of them. As someone whose main DPS is Scarlet Witch (look, I just think she’s cool), I can speak with experience.
There isn’t really a character in the roster who is downright awful compared to everyone else around them, but the Marvel Rivals’ latest patch may have just changed that. Earlier this month, NetEase released a mid-season patch that fixed certain issues and buffed characters like Human Torch, but it also seems to have unintentionally nerfed Peni Parker.

Peni Parker is already considered one of the worst tanks in the game, being highly situational and more of a threat in modes like Domination and defending in Convoy. Her mines are her main threat, which are capable of deleting enemies if they walk into a hidden cluster, but the changes in the new patch now allow players to destroy them mid-activation.

A video posted to the Marvel Rivals subreddit by a user called Hassan_dislogical showcases the problem rather clearly, as they use a Scarlet Witch to walk over a web containing mines and have her immediately destroy them as soon as they activate. According to other users, it’s not just Scarlet Witch that can do this, as spamming constant damage or using melee with absolutely any character has the same effect.
Supposedly, this change came about due to a glitch which saw mines turn invisible even if they grazed one of Peni Parker’s webs. After the fix, it seems as though mines have practically no health unless they’re physically touching a web, ane even springing out of them removes their protection.
We have no idea right now whether this is an intended change to Peni’s mines, or an accidental over-correction on NetEase’s part. Either way, it might be best for all you Peni Parker mains out there to pick up a different character for now, as your damage output has been severely nerfed. Fingers crossed she gets some buffs in the near future, because boy does she need them.
