Injustice: God Among Us is a unique addition to the fighting genre, as developer NetherRealm Studios got the opportunity to bring a DC twist to the table. Known for Mortal Kombat, NetherRealm remixed its own formula, making Injustice an exciting change of pace for fans of the genre. The success of the first entry made way for a sequel, and now with Injustice 2 being eight years old, many are wondering if Injustice 3 will ever materialize.
Injustice 3 once seemed like a pipe dream, but a third game seems more possible than ever. Now that the DC universe is being revamped by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the duo has been in discussions with NetherRealm and Rocksteady regarding future games. While this isn’t a full-blown confirmation, it’s definitely promising. However, an Injustice 3 could still be years away at this point, and if that’s the case, NetherRealm has the next best thing: a remake of the original Injustice.

NetherRealm Studios Should Jump On the Remake Bandwagon With Injustice
A Fun Brawler That Could Use a Fresh Coat of Paint
- Injustice: Gods Among Us was released on April 3, 2013.
Being over a decade old, Injustice is definitely showing its age. While it’s a fun fighting title with a compelling twist on DC lore, Injustice could benefit greatly from a revamp. One of the biggest industry trends right now is remakes and remasters, and while it isn’t always wise to follow every trend, NetherRealm taking this route with Injustice could be the best way to kickstart a revival of the series. There’s no telling what Injustice 3 has in store for players, if it ever even gets made. Hope is growing, though, and developing a remake before the next chapter might be the strongest strategy.
Since the launch of Injustice, the gaming industry has evolved at a rapid pace. Graphically, Injustice just doesn’t hold up to other games at the moment, and it could potentially be keeping a younger generation of gamers from checking out the series. If NetherRealm were to fine-tune the first chapter and also optimize it for current systems, Injustice may get the chance to find a completely new audience on top of its already-existing fan base. There are bound to be high expectations for Injustice 3, and if NetherRealm nails a remake of the game that started it all, it would likely ignite a lot of excitement for a fresh story.
NetherRealm’s latest project is 2023’s Mortal Kombat 1. Rumors have suggested that the third expansion pack has been canceled. This has yet to be confirmed, but it raises questions about NetherRealm potentially switching up its future plans.
Taking Full Advantage of WB’s DC Reboot
- HBO’s Creature Commandos animated series marked the beginning of Gunn and Safran’s DCU.
- The first major film of this DCU will be Superman.
- Superman arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025.
Gunn and Safran working to bring the DCU back into a new form makes Injustice 3 feel like a no-brainer. It would be strange for the two to approach NetherRealm about potential game adaptations that weren’t Injustice entries. Considering that the fighting genre is the studio’s bread and butter, Injustice 3 seems like the only obvious option.
Superman stars David Corenswet as the titular hero, with Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult supporting as Lois Lane and Lex Luthor.
Of course, there is always room for surprises, and NetherRealm could potentially pull out a DC-related fighting game that has nothing to do with Injustice. This seems unlikely, but there is no way to know until the developer officially announces its next project.
Injustice 3 would be the perfect way to celebrate the arrival of the new DCU Superman, but a remake of Injustice would be the next best thing. As the year continues, it will be interesting to see if NetherRealm reveals any future plans related to Gunn and Safran’s DC ambitions.
