Summary

  • Hasbro is working on plans for the future of Baldur’s Gate, with potential exciting reveals in the works.
  • Fans shouldn’t expect a Baldur’s Gate 3 sequel soon, as Hasbro plans to take a measured approach.
  • If a Baldur’s Gate 4 is developed, it may take years due to high expectations and the success of the third installment.

Hasbro has recently spoken about Baldur’s Gate, and hinted at what the future will hold for the series. However, fans shouldn’t hold out for a Baldur’s Gate 3 sequel any time soon, as that title is likely still far off in the future.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was a massive success, and one that’s still keeping many gamers actively busy. The developers at Larian Studios hit it out of the park with the third main series entry in the franchise, an especially impressive feat considering it was the first time the studio had worked on a Baldur’s Gate game. However, with Larian Studios stepping away from Baldur’s Gate, many fans have wondered what the future will hold for the franchise and how Hasbro will go about choosing a new developer.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Player Makes Hilarious Realization About the Game’s Antagonists

A Baldur’s Gate 3 player online has a hilarious epiphany about the game’s main antagonists.

At the 2025 Game Developer’s Conference, IGN spoke with Hasbro about Baldur’s Gate and what’s going on with the series. Hasbro SVP of digital games Dan Ayoub explained that “a lot of people” are interested in Baldur’s Gate, and that the company is working on plans for the future. An exciting element is that Ayoub says that “…in pretty short order, we’re going to have some stuff to talk about around that,” referring to Baldur’s Gate. It’s not known what kind of reveal he’s hinting at, but it seems like Hasbro has something in the works, likely other than a full Baldur’s Gate sequel.

What About Baldur’s Gate 4?

With Larian Studios out of the picture, many gamers have wondered about how a sequel to the title will be handled. Ayoub noted that while Baldur’s Gate 4 is something he wants, Hasbro will be taking a measured approach to ensure that the follow-up can meet expectations. Ayoub says the company has “got a lot of plans” and he didn’t want to “over-tease” it. Regarding the sequel, Ayoub notes that the hope is that Hasbro will keep raising the bar, leading to an impressive sequel that could ideally go even further than Baldur’s Gate 3.

Considering that Baldur’s Gate 3 took seven years to develop, it could be years before Baldur’s Gate 4 is even announced or teased. A new developer will have some huge shoes to fill in Larian’s absence, and players have high expectations. The incredible size and scope of Baldur’s Gate 3 was likely made possible in part by the amount of time that Larian was able to dedicate to it. While fans would surely love to see more of the world and characters of Baldur’s Gate that they’ve come to know and enjoy, rushing a sequel out likely wouldn’t make anyone happy. Thankfully, Baldur’s Gate 3 has so much depth that players will likely keep discovering new paths and secrets for years to come.
