Now, the game is set to receive a full-on remake in the form of Nightmare Busters Rebirth, which will bring with it a brand-new visual overhaul, updated modern controls, and quality-of-life improvements to bring the game to a new audience. Developer Pix’n Love Games revealed the title through an official trailer showing off its new visuals, run-and-gun gameplay similar to Cuphead, and the platforms on which it is meant to launch, which include the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. Nightmare Busters Rebirth Brings Co-Op Platforming Action to Modern Systems
Nightmare Busters Rebirth, much like the original game, puts players in the shoes of a duo of leprechauns, Flynn and Floyd, who hunt down nightmarish creatures in search of riches using projectile weapons and fast-paced platforming. The game features two-player co-op as well, giving fans the option to bring a friend along for the adventure and play through the fantastical story of Nightmare Busters with an all-new coat of paint.
Having launched originally in 2013, Nightmare Busters became the final game to ever release on the Super Nintendo, years after the 1998 release of Frogger initially held that title, making it an extremely late game in the console’s lifespan. As such, the upcoming remake may serve as a unique experience for fans of classic SNES games, especially in its gameplay, which seems to take some cues from the likes of Mega Man and Metroid.
Remakes and remasters of classic platformers seem to be a dime a dozen these days as developers continue to churn out new versions of fan-favorite games on modern hardware. Recently, the upcoming remaster of the PlayStation hit Croc: Legend of the Gobbos got an official release date, and there is no shortage of modern 2D platformers for fans waiting on Nightmare Busters Rebirth to launch in the coming months.
