Daredevil: Born Again season 2 filming has begun, and new set photos revealed two characters will have slightly different looks. Now, a closer inspection of the set photos may have spoiled why these characters have changed their appearance.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 filming commenced in late February with Deborah Ann Woll reprising her role as Karen Page for a seemingly more substantial arc than the first season. Although Daredevil: Born Again season 1 hasn’t finished its run on Disney Plus, fans couldn’t help but analyze the season 2 set photos that surfaced online despite the potential spoilers for the first season. Perhaps the most notable aspect of the Daredevil: Born Again season 2 set photos was the new looks for Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Woll’s Karen Page. Fans had theories on why these two characters changed their appearances, and eagle-eyed enthusiasts spotted a potential explanation that may spoil the Daredevil: Born Again season 1 ending.

New Daredevil: Born Again season 2 set photos (via Getty) revealed Karen Page with red hair and Matt Murdock sporting a hoodie. Many fans assumed that Matt Murdock and Karen Page were on the run because Page’s red hair appeared to be a wig and both characters were wearing sunglasses as if they were trying to be incognito. One photo featuring a poster declaring Matt Murdock missing and providing a phone number for citizens to call if they’ve seen him seemingly confirmed this theory. A close inspection of the poster also reveals text that might spoil the Daredevil: Born Again season 1 ending:

Of course, this raised the question of why Matt Murdock is hiding. Considering Mayor Wilson Fisk/Kingpin warned Matt Murdock that there would be consequences if he resumed his Daredevil activities, which will undoubtedly happen before Daredevil: Born Again season 1 ends, it’s reasonable to assume Fisk has exposed Matt Murdock as Daredevil. This would likely start a manhunt for Matt Murdock and anyone aware of his Daredevil identity, thus forcing him and Karen Page to go into hiding.

On the other hand, the poster clearly states Matt Murdock is “missing” instead of “wanted.” He’s also described as a hero for saving Mayor Wilson Fisk’s life, implying he’s not considered a criminal or fugitive. Netflix’s Daredevil season 3 concluded with Matt Murdock promising not to reveal Vanessa’s (Wilson Fisk’s wife) role in the murder of an FBI agent in exchange for Fisk leaving Karen Page and Foggy Nelson alone and keeping Daredevil’s identity a secret. Assuming this arrangement still stands, perhaps Kingpin has ordered Daredevil’s apprehension without exposing Matt Murdock’s secret. Murdock would still have to go on the run, which may explain why the city considers him “missing” instead of “wanted.”

This is purely speculative. There could be many explanations for why Matt Murdock and Karen Page are in hiding. However, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is rumored to involve Matt Murdock assembling a team of street-level heroes to fight Mayor Wilson Fisk’s anti-vigilante task force. If true, it might explain why Matt Murdock (and potentially other vigilantes) are hiding or missing. Daredevil: Born Again season 2 likely won’t be released until next year, so it will be a while before fans learn the truth.
