Black Desert Online is an MMORPG developed by Pearl Abyss, with a strong focus on combat. Its gameplay mechanics require manual aiming and free movement, setting it apart from other traditional games in the genre. Alongside combat, the massive open world of Black Desert allows players to engage in various other activities such as housing, fishing, farming, and trading. The game has been around for 10 years, and now Pearl Abyss is introducing a challenging new way for players to engage with it.

As part of an update released on March 13, Pearl Abyss has added a hardcore server to the huge Black Desert Online world, Battlefield of Blood and Sand. The new server is set in Valencia’s Great Desert and features special rules designed specifically for long-time players who have already mastered the game’s mechanics. Players can take on this challenge using the Warrior, Sorceress, Ranger, or Berserker. Points can be earned by battling against monsters or other adventurers, as well as by completing daily quests. The Hardcore server pre-season is available from March 13 to April 10, though Pearl Abyss noted that the dates are subject to change. However, players should be aware that the hardcore server can only be played for two hours each day.
Black Desert Online’s New Hardcore Server Limits Playtime to Two Hours a Day
Even though the server has a playtime cap, progressing through it comes with some conveniences. For instance, the points players earn from quests don’t disappear even if their character dies, making things a bit more forgiving when engaging in Black Desert Online PvP. After obtaining points, players can exchange them for Hardcore Honor and trade them for rewards in the Manage Currency UI. To access the server, players will find a new Hardcore tab in the Server section and must create a Hardcore-exclusive character that starts at level 63.
While players take on the new challenges introduced by Pearl Abyss, just a couple of months ago, the developer confirmed the release window for Crimson Desert—the studio’s next open-world action-adventure game—for 2025. As fans wait for more information on that title, they have until April 10 to try out Black Desert Online’s hardcore server pre-season.
