12 Great Games Still Stranded On The Xbox 360

Backwards compatibility has done wonders for the Xbox platform, but there are still some great experiences stuck on the 360.

A big thing, however, was that the developer also released the tools to recompile Xbox 360 games on GitHub, potentially opening the floodgates to a sea of PC versions of Xbox 360 classics. Plenty of games should be preserved this way, especially with Xbox’s future in doubt, meaning these games could potentially get lost to time.

Ninja Gaiden 2

The Ninja Gaiden That Koei Tecmo Refuses To Remaster Properly

There are tons of versions of Ninja Gaiden 2, but the best is still the original game on Xbox 360, with nothing even coming close. Many things about Ninja Gaiden 2 Black or Sigma 2 miss the mark, and you can only play the original game on Xbox platforms. Many action game fans play on PlayStation or PC, so recommending an entire console just to play NG2 is a tough ask within the fandom.

With Koei Tecmo keen on locking away the original forever, it must be preserved. Thankfully, a Ninja Gaiden 2 recompilation project is already being worked on by Hinzoto, creator of Super Mario 64 HD. A PC version could not only preserve this game forever but finally make NG2 available on something that’s not an Xbox.

Lost Odyssey

The Best RPG That Hardly Anyone’s Played

It may surprise you, but the Xbox 360 had plenty of stellar RPG-exclusive titles, with two Japanese ones that must be preserved. The biggest one is Lost Odyssey. At the time, Final Fantasy 13 was expected to be a PS3 exclusive, so Lost Odyssey was essentially Xbox’s Final Fantasy made by some of the same people, including creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and composer Nobuo Uematsu.

It’s a phenomenal old-school-style RPG that’s a must-play for any fan of the genre. Sadly, it’s still an Xbox 360 exclusive, and despite being published by Xbox Game Studios and being backward compatible, it’s not even on Game Pass. A masterpiece like this needs to be on PC.

6

Blue Dragon

Another Fantastic RPG Exclusive

The other big Japanese Xbox 360 exclusive RPG would be Blue Dragon, made by the same developers of Lost Odyssey. It’s not as good as Lost Odyssey, but it’s still a very solid RPG experience. However, this game must be preserved for an entirely different reason.

8 Best Akira Toriyama Character Designs

Akira Toriyama has a lot of iconic character designs, but these are his very best.

Blue Dragon was one of the many games worked on by Akira Toriyama, a legendary manga artist most well known for being the creator of Dragon Ball. Toriyama unexpectedly passed away in 2024, leading to greater appreciation for his work across all forms of media, including games. Blue Dragon has to be preserved on PC to keep a part of Toriyama’s work alive.

Trials Evolution

A Game Lost To Time

Big-budget retail games aren’t the only ones that should be preserved on PC, as Xbox Live Arcade titles are equally worth saving. Case in point: Trials Evolution. Yes, Trials Evolution is available on PC, but it’s not the complete game, as it’s missing the two DLC packs. The complete Xbox 360 experience has been lost to time due to the game’s delisting, with the only people who can play it are the ones who bought it back in the day.

One of the best XBLA games ever released, Trials Evolution was so much fun but also had a great community with incredible custom tracks. In a perfect world, the full Trials Evolution must be recompiled on PC, as well as reviving the custom tracks, as the feature’s been shut down in the game for several years.

4

Asura’s Wrath

Another Game In Danger Of Being Lost Completely

By 2012, a lot of third-party games started to launch on PC as well as consoles, but not all of them. One title that desperately needs the recompilation treatment has to be Asura’s Wrath. This was a cinematic game done right, with basic gameplay but incredibly hype anime moments you’ll never forget.

Unfortunately, Capcom ruined this game because they locked off the actual ending, Part 4, as paid DLC. It’s ridiculous that the final act could be lost forever due to potentially closed digital storefronts in the future, along with other DLC like a Street Fighter lost episode. The complete Asura’s Wrath needs to be preserved, as the best parts of the game are in the DLC.

3

The Darkness

One Of The Best Comic Book Games

While The Darkness 2 launched on PC, the same cannot be said for the first game. A classic FPS comic book game, The Darkness was incredibly unique. Not only was the FPS action stellar, using your powers in tandem with your guns, but it was all set in an open world.

9 Best Comic Books Based On Video Games

Many video games further develop their stories and worlds through comic books.

You use the subway system to get around, and if you kill an NPC, they stay dead and won’t be present for future side quests. It’s still fresh to this day for an FPS; plus, it has great voice acting for the dark and brutal story. The first Darkness deserves to be on PC, as it’s arguably better than the comics it’s based on.

2

Saints Row

Another Classic Stuck On The 360

The best Grand Theft Auto clone not made by Rockstar was always the Saints Row games, but many might forget that the original was an Xbox 360 exclusive. All the sequels launched on PC and most modern consoles, but the game that started it all is only on Xbox.

The original Saints Row is a solid open-world game that isn’t as refined as 2 or 3, but definitely far better than the reboot. Being the original game that started this whole franchise, it should be preserved through a recompilation on PC.

1

Tony Hawk’s Project 8

One Of The Best Tony Hawk Games

About to skate downhill in Tony Hawk's Project 8.

Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland was a very good title, but it seemed like the series was just going through the motions, being essentially the same game each year. Tony Hawk’s Project 8, on the other hand, mixed things up to become a top-five Tony Hawk game.

Many new mechanics were introduced, like the slow-mo in-air tricks and ragdoll bails, which worked so well that they were implemented and perfected in EA’s Skate. With Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 removing a ton of content like Career Mode and some skaters, the future isn’t looking bright for additional remasters, which is why the original games, including Project 8, must be preserved on PC.
