Valve has a rather lengthy history of experimenting with hardware. A decade ago, Valve released the Steam Machine, a tiny computer designed to offer players a home console experience for PC games, which shipped alongside the Steam Controller. While both products failed to make a significant impact on the gaming world, the same can’t be said for the more recent Steam Deck.
Though it may not be the first or even the most powerful handheld PC on the market, the Steam Deck’s high level of accessibility and instant out-of-the-box synchronization with users’ Steam library has made it one of the most popular handheld consoles around. The Steam Deck is reported to have sold at least 3.7 million units since its release in 2022, but there are plenty of gamers out there without one, and there’s never been a better time to pick one up.

The Steam Deck Library Is Always Growing
Despite being almost 3 years old, the Steam Deck still has plenty of life left in it, and Valve shows no signs of ending support for the handheld anytime soon. New games are being added to the Steam Deck’s Verified library on a regular basis, including even major recent releases like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. If users pick up a Steam Deck now, they’ll not only have a vast back-catalog of Verified games to enjoy now, but plenty of games to enjoy in the near future as well.
