Twitch is changing gifted subs, giving content creators more control while potentially also limiting discounts for viewers. The change could potentially be felt by any and all Twitch viewers, but it’s ultimately up to each streamer to decide how they want to handle it.
Twitch has made significant changes in recent years, including changing the price of subscriptions and introducing monetization options for Twitch accounts that aren’t partners or affiliates. Some of these changes have been applauded by the community, but it remains to be seen how this one is taken overall.

Twitch is now giving its streamers the opportunity to turn off discounted gifted subscription bundles. The streaming platform sometimes offers a discount to users who gift multiple subscriptions on Twitch, with the discount usually kicking in for five or more. Now, content creators can turn off these discounts, preventing the price from dropping. In order to do this, streamers need to visit their dashboard, go to monetization and subscriptions, and then hit the toggle for Shared Gift Subs Discounts.
Twitch Sub Discounts Change in Some Ways and Don’t in Others
Some might be wondering who this option will ultimately benefit. Previously, if Twitch offered a discount on gifted subs, the streamer’s take would also be reduced accordingly, based on the profit share of each sub. If this option is turned off, viewers won’t be able to purchase gifted Twitch subs for a lower price during most of the site’s discount periods. For channels that disable the discounts, this could mean fewer viewers will gift subs than they might have ordinarily, but any subs that the streamer receives during that time will be at the normal price, and thus give them the normal cut, too. Some viewers who enjoy supporting streamers and their communities with discount opportunities might not like the change, but streamers may prefer to get a larger amount of cash per sub by enabling this option.
The one exception to this new change is SUBtember, which sees subscriptions discounted across the Twitch platform. This new ability for streamers to opt out won’t apply to this particular period of sub discounts. However, it’s unlikely to have a negative impact on streamers. During SUBtember, Twitch adjusts for the discounted sub cost by taking a smaller cut for itself and giving the streamer the same amount they would have ordinarily earned from a normally-priced subscription. This will continue, so streamers who enable this new option won’t see any changes from the rest of the platform during SUBtember.
