Reignbreaker: All Status Effects, Explained

Reignbreaker is an action roguelike with dynamic combat designed to test your reflexes and ability to think on your feet. While you can spam the dash and punch button to get through the first couple of raids, as you dive deeper into the Bastion, you’ll have to master every mechanic in the game to take down the Queen of Keys.

Status effects are a core part of the game’s combat, allowing you to weaken foes and create openings. There are quite a few status effects in the game, and all of them work differently. In this guide, we’ll break down each status effect available in Reignbreaker to help you understand how they work.

All Status Effects in Reignbreaker

There are four primary status effects that players can inflict on enemies in Reignbreaker:

Bleed

reignbreaker-bleed-status-effect

Offered by Bloodletter, the Bleed status effect applies a damage-over-time debuff on enemies. Bleeding enemies take damage for five seconds, but if you manage to apply 10 stacks of Bleed, the stacks are removed, and the target takes a flat 150 damage instantly.

Artefact

Effect

Bleed Together

Launch three homing projectiles that inflict Bleed when you Execute an enemy.

Little Prick

Punches deal less damage, but apply Bleed on hit.

Blood Sucker

Getting hit deals damage to nearby enemies and applies Bleed. It also reduces all damage taken from enemies.

Remote Surgery

Bayonet projectiles inflict Bleed but also generate more Heat.

The Remote Surgery Artefact works great with the Peashooter Bayonet.

Stun

Stun is a unique status effect obtained from Spear Sister’s Vaults. Stunned enemies can’t move or attack for two seconds, giving you some much-needed breathing space when things get hectic. Unfortunately, there’s no consistent way to apply this effect. There’s only one Artefact in the game that grants the ability to Stun an enemy.

Artefact

Effect

Stinger

The Throw attack has a small chance to stun an enemy.

Make sure you go with Artefacts that boost your Throw attack’s speed and damage to get the most out of a Stun build.

Root

Root is similar to Stun, but it doesn’t stop enemies from attacking. Only their movement is restricted. Master Trapper’s Artefacts usually grant you the ability to inflict Root. Since many Artefacts in Reignbreaker boost damage against Rooted enemies, it’s a solid choice when you’re trying to go for the highest damage output.

Artefact

Effect

Bite Back

Getting hit drops a cluster of Bear Traps around you and also keeps you invincible for longer.

Satchel of Traps

Dashing drops a Bear Trap

Scrap Metal

Defeating an enemy drops a Bear Trap

Get a Javelin that also Roots enemies when you’re going for a Root build.

Coat

Unlike Root and Bleed, Coat doesn’t affect enemies directly. Instead, damaging a Coated enemy causes your Combo Level to rise 50% faster. The effect lasts five seconds, after which you must strike the enemy again to reapply it. Vandal’s Artefacts typically grant Coat, and it also modifies your Punch attack. A Coat build is great for boosting your Combo Level, which, combined with some late-game Resolve upgrades, can lead to amazing damage output.

Artefacts

Effects

Punch and Paint

Punches have more range, deal more damage, and also inflict Coat.

Dashing Assault

Punch repeatedly while dashing to execute a powerful attack sequence that inflicts Coat.

Paint Slash

The Punch attack sequence gets an additional slash attack that inflicts

Apart from the ones mentioned above, there are a few status effects exclusive to Javelin upgrades.

Status Effect

How it Works

Rust

Rusted enemies take four damage per second for up to three seconds. It can stack up to four times.

Drain

Enemies afflicted by Drain transfer 1 health to you every two seconds for up to six seconds.

Slow

Reduces enemy attack and movement speed by 40% for three seconds.

A few Vault Artefacts also let you apply Drain in the game.

Status effects in Reignbreaker can drastically change how you approach combat. So make sure you play around with them to figure out which fits best with your playstyle.
