Monster Hunter Wilds: How To Get Great Hornfly

One of the many secret items in Monster Hunter Wilds, here’s where to find Great Hornfly.

The more common variants of these items are easy to find, while the Rarity 6 versions are exceedingly difficult. In fact, finding ten of these Rarity 6 Special Items unlocks the Explorer of the Eastlands achievement. That’s easier said than done though, so let’s get into seeing where each of these elusive items can be found.

How Many Rarity 6 Special Items Are There?

The Explorer of the Eastlands achievement requires to you find ten Rarity 6 Special Items. This isn’t every Rarity 6 Special Item, but it’s pretty damn close. There are 11 in total, giving you a tiny bit of wiggle room in regards to unlocking the achievement. Here are all of them:

  • Great Windward Aloe
  • Thundering Fulgurite
  • Eternal Scarlet Amber
  • Queensbloom Pollen
  • Bulky Treasure
  • Antimite Mass
  • Large Goldenscale Vase
  • Time-honed Wylk Gem
  • Nightflower Pollen
  • Genesis Opal
  • Wyvernsprout

The majority of these are items you can just find out in the world, while some require more precise methods. That said, almost all of them also require a special event in the world to occur before they appear, so you can fully brute force it either. After you’ve gotten these items, they can be used in trading with various different characters for other rare items.

Where To Find Every Rarity 6 Special Item

Now that you know about every Rarity 6 Special Item there is, let’s get to actually finding them. Each of them are listed below in the order they are displayed in your Item Box, so just scroll on down to whichever you are missing and get hunting.

We also have dedicated guides for many of these items if you need some extra help locating them.

Great Windward Aloe

Monster Hunter Wilds inventory item great windward aloe.
  • Area – Windward Plains
  • Event – Great Windward Succulent Emergence

The Great Windward Succulent is found in the Windward Plains during the Plenty, only during a Great Windward Succulent Emergence. These can only be acquired from once when on foot, though the number of items you acquire can be boosted with the Botantis skill.

Thundering Fulgurite

Monster Hunter Wilds inventory item thundering fulgurite.
  • Area – Windward Pains
  • Event – Thundering Fulgurite Emergence

Thundering Fulgurite is found only in the Windward Plains, and can only appear during the Sandtide. You must also wait for the Thundering Fulgurite Emergence event to occur. Keep waiting in your tent and set the environment to Inclemency until the event finally occurs.

Eternal Scarlet Amber

Monster Hunter Wilds inventory item eternal scarlet amber.
  • Area – Scarlet Forest
  • Event – Colossal Amber Emergence

Eternal Scarlet Amber is found on Colossal Amber deposits in the Scarlet Forest, which only appear during the Colossal Amber Emergence event. Interestingly, this event seems to only appear during the Fallow, rather than the more typical Plenty.

Queensbloom Pollen

Monster Hunter Wilds inventory item queensbloom pollen.
  • Area – Scarlet Forest
  • Event – Blooms only during the Plenty throughout the day.

Queensbloom Pollen is one of the more complex items to gather. Around the Scarlet Forest are gathering points called Rafflesia Blooms. These only open during the Plenty, though typically only one or two at a time. They also only appear on the map when they are open. They bloom once it turns to daytime during the Plenty, though remain open for the rest of the Plenty afterwards.

If you’re not sure if any Rafflesia Blooms are available, just open the filters on your minimap. This will show every active gathering point, even if you’ve never interacted with it before.

Bulky Treasure

Monster Hunter Wilds inventory item bulky treasure.
  • Area – Scarlet Forest
  • Event – Bountiful Treasure Emergence

Another Rarity 6 Special Item exclusive to the Scarlet Forest, Bulky Treasures are only found during the Bountiful Treasure Emergence event. This event only occurs during the Plenty, so wait until that weather if you’re searching for this item.

Antimite Mass

Monster Hunter Wilds inventory item antimite mass.
  • Area – Oilwell Basin
  • Event – Giant Hopper Crystal Emergence

Antimite Mass is exclusive to the Oilwell Basin, and only appears during a Giant Hopper Crystal Emergence event. These appear as Giant Hopper Crystal gathering points, just like how you get other Antimite materials. These are most common during the Plenty, though tend to only stay around for a relatively short period, so be fast to pick them up once they appear.

Large Goldenscale Vase

Monster Hunter Wilds inventory item large goldenscale vase.
  • Area – Iceshard Cliffs
  • Event – Remarkable Relic Emergence

One of the only Rarity 6 Special Items you can find in the Iceshard Cliffs, Large Goldenscale Vases are found in the Remarkable Relic gathering point during a Remarkable Relic Emergence event. These tend to occur most commonly during the Plenty, so check during that weather condition.

Time-honed Wylk Gem

Monster Hunter Wilds inventory item time-honed wylk gem.
  • Area – Windward Plains, Oilwell Basin, and Ruins of Wyveria.
  • Event – Wylky Crystal Outcrop Emergence

Time-honed Wylk Gems are one of the most widespread of the Rarity 6 Special Items you can find, spread across the WIndward Plains, Oilwell Basin, and the Ruins of Wyveria. They appear in most locations near to the Landspine that connects the land, though still only appears during a Wylky Crystal Outcrop Emergence. These can occur during both the Fallow and the Inclemency.

Nightflower Pollen

Monster Hunter Wilds inventory item large nightflower pollen.
  • Area – Windward Plains And Scarlet Forest
  • Event – Nighttime on a Full Moon.

Nightflower Pollen is the most obscenely complex of the Rarity 6 Special Items. It can only be acquired in two specific locations each in the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest, and the Botanist skill does not activate on it, meaning you can only get one Nightflower Pollen at a time. It is harvested from the Ephemeral Bloom gathering point.

The Ephemeral Bloom only appears during a Full Moon, which itself only appears once every seven days. You also cannot sleep right until nighttime when the Full Moon is meant to rise. Instead, you must rest until evening and let it turn to nighttime, as this is when the Ephemeral Blossom blooms. Find its locations using the filters on the minimap.

They will typically only bloom in the area you are in, so if the Full Moon rises in the Windward Plains, they will not bloom in the Scarlet Forest. So you can effectively only get two Nightflower Pollen per Full Moon.

Genesis Opal

Monster Hunter Wilds inventory item large genesis opal.
  • Area – Windward Plains, Oilwell Basin, and Ruins of Wyveria.
  • Event – Magnificent Fossil Emergence

Genesis Opal is another of the more widespread Rarity 6 Special Items, and can be found in three different areas of the game. It is gathered from Magnificent Fossils, which only appear during the Magnificent Fossil Emergence event. These can appear in most weather conditions, with the Fallow and Inclemency seemingly the most common.

Wyvernsprout

Monster Hunter Wilds inventory item large wyvernsprout.
  • Area – Anywhere
  • Event – Rotten Carcass of a Small Monster.

Wyvernsprout is another of the more complex Rarity 6 Special Items, and has quite a low spawn rate. It is found by defeating a Small Monster, and then waiting for them to rot. Typically, they will just become a Rotten carcass after a few minutes before becoming a bonepile. Rarely, however, they can instead spawn a Carrion Mushroom, marked by the mycelium growing on them. Gathering from here will give you a Wyvernsprout.

Make sure to gather quickly, as a carcass with Wyvernsprout on it will still decay into a bonepile in a few more minutes.

With that, you will have acquired every Rarity 6 Special item there is, and the Explorer of the Eastlands achievement along with you. You also have a hefty number of tradable materials to get even more useful items.
