While The Simpsons has been on the air for longer than some fans have been alive, the show’s stars aren’t immune to anxiety about new technologies.
From March 18, Disney Plus has officially added a 24-hour streaming service for The Simpsons that will feature all 767 episodes being played in chronological order. It gives fans just short of 300 hours worth of Simpsons episodes to sit and binge, with audiences now being able to sit back and watch everything in order.
“From day one, the fans have asked for a stream of The Simpsons, and we’re happy to oblige,” said Gabe Lewis, Disney Plus’ SVP of Programming & Content Curation. “Streams on Disney Plus have been a fantastic go-to experience for subscribers looking to sit back and relax with their favorite shows and movies, and we look forward to evolving the user experience and expanding the offering with more Streams, to more subscribers, later this year. The Simpsons Stream will deliver a Simpsons marathon all day, every day — no matter when you tune in, this ultimate Simpsons binge will be there,” added showrunner Matt Selman.
Audiences will still be able to pick and choose episodes to watch, as has been the case throughout the history of Disney Plus. All 35 seasons are available, and people can pluck individual episodes to enjoy, along with The Simpsons Movie and all of the specials that have been released on the popular streaming service. However, if people want an on-demand and continuous stream that will be in order of release, that is also now available.
It’s a positive sign for The Simpsons fans that Disney is showcasing a real commitment to the brand, even at this stage in its lifespan. With all the episodes already being available, it would have been easy for Disney to just leave things, but the fact that they have committed to the 24-hour stream is going to make a lot of people happy, as it will be the perfect way for people to enjoy the show.
After the retirement of Pamela Hayden, who was the voice of the beloved Milhouse Van Houten, there had been question marks over whether it was time for The Simpsons to end. However, the fact that Disney is making significant decisions about The Simpsons, such as this, should give people hope that the series will continue, potentially until episode 1,000.
